If you are looking for a good series to watch under a Christmas plaid with a hot chocolate, Netflix has made the perfect series for you: Dash and Lily ! Adapted from the book by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn and directed by Nick Jonas, this Christmas series warms our hearts in these cold winter times.
An epistolary love story
One December evening at Strand, a charming library in Manhattan, Dash discovers a mysterious red notebook. Yet reluctant to the atmosphere of Christmas, he embarks through this book in an initiatory adventure dictated by a stranger, Lily. It is through this that the two foreigners, each in turn, challenge each other. Without ever seeing each other, they gradually discover pieces of each other's lives. This suggests a breach for a beautiful love story.
A romantic comedy as we like them
If you are one of these fans of romantic comedies (like us, we reassure you), you will not be disappointed by watching the series. Netflix offers us a beautiful love story that unites two strangers for Christmas. On the one hand Lily, always positive and enthusiastic, puts balm in our hearts. A tad candid, she brings a little sweetness to the series. Her colorful personality is reflected in her clothes that she creates herself. A member of the Christmas choir, she is very invested in what she considers her favorite time of year. We quickly become attached to this character with a big heart. On the other side of the notebook, we find Dash, apparently his total opposite. Rather taciturn and cynical, he hates the Christmas season. Tired of the clichés surrounding the holiday season, he is still tempted by Lily's challenges. Little by little, he takes a liking to this adventure, or rather more to the one that makes him live all this. It is therefore the story of two opposites who attract, a classic in the romantic comedies that we know. However, we do not let ourselves be less trained and we easily finish the series in one afternoon.
A new and refreshing series
No more traditional Christmas movies, Netflix is reinventing the way we experience the holidays. They are young and dynamic characters that we follow this time. For once, it is the woman who takes the lead. Lily hides a notebook with instructions for whoever will find it. We see Dash following the instructions of his enigmatic correspondent. She does not hesitate to play a little and ridicule him. The young man finds himself, for example, reading a song in front of everyone in the bookstore, or stealing Santa's hat in the mall, in front of all these confused children. Nevertheless, he does not let himself be defeated and does not hesitate to return the favor as soon as the opportunity arises. Over the course of the series, we see the characters evolve and step out of their comfort zone. Each instruction from the other represents a real challenge for them. At Just Focus, we appreciate the authentic side of this series, which changes from classic Christmas movies. Netflix addresses themes such as bullying, homosexuality or even disappointments in love, but all wrapped up with a touch of humor. It is with pleasure that we follow this warm love story for the end of year celebrations. If you are still not convinced by Dash and Lily, we leave you with the trailer, which plunges us directly into the Christmas spirit. https://youtu.be/OVJPgnDPLHo Rather science fiction than romantic comedy? We therefore recommend our review on "The Mandalorian", available here.
