The synopsis of this fourth season is as follows: "Spirits are heating up in this flamboyant season of Chicago Fire, where firefighters, rescuers and paramedics bravely join forces. As Barracks Lieutenant Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) faces the consequences of his undercover mission and First Aid Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) finds himself demoted, personal worries threaten the focus and professionalism needed for life-and-death matters handled daily at the barracks.
