The Buttshakers carry fervent soul high with their new highly energetic album Sweet Rewards, led by a political music video.

The Butsthakers called on director Bill Streeter for the music video for In The City about police brutality in the United States.

So here are The Buttshakers, sharper than ever, with their ultra dynamic soul funk, and its dance rhythms that give a crazy energy. This group, which would have made a misfortune at Motown or Stax comes from Lyon, and signs with this new album one of the successful records of its career. For their new album Sweet Rewards, the combo signed to Underdog Records and enriches their furious cocktail of old school soul, garage rock and nervous funk with the addition of gospel choirs, brass, strings, psychedelic tablecloth keyboard or slide-guitar. With the fantastic Ciara Thompson on vocals, The Buttshakers offers themselves for In The City, the second title of the album, a video with societal scope. Directed by Bill Streeter, Hydraulic Studios, the video explores the tensions that followed Michael Brown's death in August 2014. The riots that took place during this period were the precursor to a wave of citizen protests, in response to and following police violence and shootings in the United States, and launched the national Black Lives Matter movement into the public sphere. Reflecting the current social climate, St. Louis is a perfect example of the socio-economic and racial tensions felt across the United States: a racially divided city, struggling to overcome a long history of economic depression and inequality.

Here is the video of In The City by The Buttshakers:

Combining a Machiavellian brass section, anti-rheumatism guitar chords, a frenzied rhythm section and a supercharged singer, this combo will charm you with its frenetic assaults. Eminently inspired by the Detroit scene of the 70's and the best productions of the time, the band will offer you a refreshing return to the roots of the Motown sound. To follow, on stage and on record, with their new album Sweet Rewards.
