[Criticism] Polyphia – The Most Hated EP: a catch-up in order

What could be better than an EP to put things back together after a lazy second album? Polyphia seems to have asked herself the right questions, and delivers a well-stocked six-title, brimming with good ideas. A realization that would almost steal the show from Chon on the niche of technical instrumental Rock.

It all starts with a few oily notes, which could almost be credited to Stevie Ray Vaughan. A little family blues to get your feet going? Why not! The Most Hated benefits – unlike its predecessors – from a science of progression that saves the pleasure of listening (and our ears). Muse, and especially Renaissance, suffered from gimmicks a bit tiresome, leaving an aftertaste of repetitiveness.

So if the Loud starter acts as a room driver, the single Icronic finishes to take off the soles. Instant tube with its devastating riff, the title confirms that the Texas quartet intends to endorse its more electronic turn. Instrumentation still as precise, but now accompanied by parsimonious vocal samples that warm up compositions sometimes a little cold.

An electronic appetite that comes to confirm the very jerky Goose. We find in this piece a sound less saturated than usual. The guitars are crunchy, to leave more room for worked atmospheres. Still, the recipe for the new Polyphia works to the fullest.

The EP continues with an epileptic 40OZ . Not very memorable, this track opts for a technical demonstration that lacks soul. A gap quickly caught up if only by the first 20 seconds of Crosty, a sensitivity rare in Polyphia. Here again, the band swaps its classic drums for a Trap instrument of the best effect. A mix of styles that seems to be here to stay.

The height of the troll: ' The Worst ' is simply the best vintage of Polyphia's EP. A perfect synthesis, the title is a demonstration of the talent of the four boys, and closes to perfection an almost memorable musical half-hour.
