As part of their European tour, Hippo Campus was in concert on October 7th in Paris aux Etoiles!
Hippo Campus is an American band consisting of Jake Luppen (vocals/guitar), Nathan Stocker (guitar/vocals), Zach Sutton (bass) and Whistler Allen (drums/vocals). They released their first landmark album earlier this year, which was followed very recently by a new baseball EP. They therefore naturally undertook a European tour that stopped in Paris on Saturday, October 7 at Les Etoiles. We were there and it was an unforgettable moment, we tell you why!
Hippo Campus: a talented band that has fun live!
The concert started very strongly on the evening of October 7 at Les Etoiles with the title way it goes. Hippo Campus set the tone for the concert right from the start : a moment when everyone will have fun !
The Americans then continued their show with tracks from their EP Bashful Creatures. First Little Grace where Jake Luppen encouraged the audience to sing the chorus in chorus with them. Moreover, the latter will not forget to thank them before continuing with Sophie So, this song will unleash the crowd present that evening by delivering us a rain of applause. At the end, the singer will let us loose a timid "thank you".
Hippo Campus did not offer the continuation of the tracks taken from their first landmark album with initially western kids. At that time, we could see that the band already has its groupies because when Jake Luppen asked how the audience was doing, the answer to his question was simply many high-pitched screams! But it is also during the performance of this title that we could see a real complicity between the members of the group who clearly have fun on stage while being talented.
After having again quickly thanked his audience, the singer began to dance quickly during the intro of simple season and we can not blame him because this title has the same effect on everyone present in the room. After being once again heavily applauded, Hippo Campus continued with Suicide Saturday. And while Nathan Stocker on guitar, Zach Sutton on bass and Whistler Allen on drums did the backing vocals, we could watch singer Jake Luppen give everything he could to our delight. At the end, we could observe a smiling group that keeps thanking with multiple "thank you" and many nods.
Hippo Campus continued its show with the moving poems where the singer even let out a huge "Oh Paris!" which was quickly followed by the shout of many fans in the front row. At the end, Jake Luppen quickly communicated with a fan who called out to him, before starting monsoon. Moreover, he impressed everyone by holding the note for a long time, which elicited many cheers. When the band finished performing their song, the singer asked a girl in the audience if she was okay and she was quick to apologize saying that it was super emotional, which elicited a sorry from Jake Luppen followed by many laughs.
The concert continued with South eliciting applause from the audience in rhythm from the first notes. Suddenly, Jake Luppen stopped singing and approached the audience, who sang the lyrics. While Nathan Stockers sang brilliantly on this track, we were able to observe a moment of touching complicity between the singer and the bassist. Then, all the members of the group sing in chorus including the drummer who increases more and more the pace until the explosion that testifies to the inexhaustible energy of Hippo Campus on stage tonight!
After being applauded once again with passion, the singer claimed that the next song is unreleased. It was baseball where the audience danced and jumped during the chorus! It was also during this song that we were able to observe a moment of complicity between the two guitarists !
Hippo Campus continued their concert with Traveler, a track from their new EP Warm Glow. When the song began, we could watch Zach Sutton deliver a few dance steps, then the singer who firmly grabbed his T-shirt "it clings to my T-shirt". Then, we were able to observe the guitarist and the bassist approaching the drummer who increased the rhythm more and more to our delight.
Bashful Creatures begins and the public immediately recognized the premieres which triggered the hysteria of some fans present that night ! And as soon as Jake Luppen held his note in the treble the groupies were heard again to be followed by many establishments and one of "thank you, thank you"!
Alas, all good things come to an end since Hippo Campus announced that the concert was coming to an end… The band closed its concert with Tuesday where the Americans encouraged the audience to sing in chorus with them ! Then, the band claimed that this song was really the last which aroused a beautiful protest from the public which was quickly interrupted by the title buttercup ! And it was a beautiful finale since we could see the members of the group give everything!
Once the thank you were over, Hippo Campus greeted its audience and left the stage. Except that the people present at the Etoiles definitely did not want the concert to stop now !They launched into an extraordinary encore that ended with a "one more song" shouted in unison that will eventually pay off, since the band returned to the stage thanked everyone infinitely!
The concert finally ended with Violet to our delight! We could observe a band still as complicit with a guitarist and bassist who play head to head, while the singer really gave everything on stage! When it was the end of the song and therefore really also that of the concert, the band thanked its audience many times while greeting them many times.
Hippo Campus left the stage but left his audience with stars in their eyes and a smug smile on their faces. Indeed, if they already had many fans, the Americans conquered each person present in the room this Saturday, October 7 with an impeccable performance. But above all thanks to their complicity between them on stage. You could really see that Hippo Campus was having fun on stage and it's terribly fun! We can't wait to see them at their next concert in France!
