After 3 extraordinary days, the Eurockéennes 2018 ended on Sunday: just the time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the festival and to say see you next year!
It's always hard to leave a festival. It is a moment of intense communion with a crowd of different people where we share incredible moments of music. Sunday proved to be a beautiful conclusion, with an explosion of joy to end this beautiful 30th edition.
Eddy De Pretto
We had already seen him during Solidays, but we could not resist the urge to hear his strong and poignant titles again. Eddy de Pretto has completely conquered the Eurockéennes audience with his Rap Chanson Française off the beaten track. His flow was widely taken up in chorus by festival-goers who arrived early to come and listen to him. The crowd overflows from under the marquee of the Greenroom, black with people. Once again, his setlist seduces, starting with Rue de Moscou, including Kid and ending on Fête de Trop. This singer has not finished pleasing us!
Alice In Chains
If the name Alice In Chains certainly did not speak to the youngest festival-goers, the oldest knew very well who they were dealing with. Pillar of grunge music, it was a pleasure and an honor to see them perform on the big stage of Eurockéennes 2018. Powerful riffs but engaging melodies, new singer and soon new album, the band was definitely there to prove to us that they are not dead and that grunge still has a long life. We really loved their energy, their desire to communicate with the public and this benevolence despite a tortured and sometimes dark music, from a time that the under 30s … Anyway! A little nostalgia moment for some and discovery for others. A pleasure shared by all!
Dead Cross
Quick passage in front of Dead Cross (for which we did not really hang) at a moment that challenged us. Indeed, the singer had just invited a young teenager on stage who did not seem to understand English well, but to whom the group tries to make understand their music. It is finally a small Scream course to which this young padawan will be entitled. He will spend the next title screaming into a microphone with Southern Californians. A title he will certainly remember.
The Limiñanas
Lionel and Marie's French band, The Limiñanas, from Perpignan, was heard and largely convinced. They were numerous on stage to ensure the show and even more the festival-goers came to shake hair and popotins in front of the Loggia. With their rock music, between garage and punk, they have already been touring for a very long time in the USA before being recognized in France. The couple is very surrounded and on stage it really sends. Sometimes it calms down sometimes with a more folk sound… We stay enough to fill our ears!
Liam Gallagher
The enfant terrible of Oasis was back at the Eurockéennes and it was a pure moment of revival for those who were teenagers in the 90s. The setlist evolves between the tracks of his album As We Were, released last year, and the highly anticipated flagship tracks of Oasis. On stage, Liam does not move much, sometimes crashes, expresses himself a little, makes himself little understood on the other hand. We feel that even if he has calmed down, he does a little only in his head and does not necessarily want to linger too long. So even if the fans are delighted, everyone is waiting for one thing… which eventually happens. The concert will end with Wonderwall, sung in chorus by the audience.
Zeal And Ardor
If one group has piqued our curiosity, it is Zeal And Ardor. Behind this name, Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss who has no equal to mix genres. It's a great mix of Negro Spiritual and Black Metal, as powerful as it is divine, resembling a bluesy Satanist litany at will… sometimes sung, sometimes shouted. On stage, the lights and energy of the band make the show. They are impressive and very very good! Whether it's the bass player, the backing vocalists, the drummer … All send a ferocity mixed with strange spirituality. It's captivating, it speaks to something sweetly bestial and danceable. A trippy experience that we loved!
Shaka Ponk
The Eurockéeennes 2018 have aimed just to close the thirtieth edition with Shaka Ponk. It was an exceptional finish, carried by a music so in tune with the identity of the festival, its energy and its audience. Once again the Monkeys put the dose of effect on stage: it jumps, it moves, it goes into the pit in slam … On the screens, computer graphics come to mingle with the show and make the audience completely crazy. And to finish in style, the Shaka Ponk will manage to revive on stage the great disappeared of music : Prince, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain and Lemmy!
For these 30 years, the Eurockéennes have really spoiled us. There was something for everyone and the festival was able to demonstrate that, despite its evocative name, it shows a little more eclecticism and a rare open-mindedness every year. A pure delight for music lovers who can discover new sounds and young artists who can meet their audience.
And happy birthday Eurocks!
