Thursday, June 28, we had an appointment with Barbara Pravi for a small concert at Les Etoiles. A real success!

More than a concert, it is a release party that we attended to celebrate the release of his first EP, released on June 15th. For her first headlining room, we enjoyed it as much as she did.

Barbara Pravi at the Stars

The room was well filled. Friends, people in the middle… A few fans in the front row, more or less young. A varied audience for an artist who seems to touch all generations.
After a little waiting, a drummer, a guitarist and a keyboardist enter the stage. More instruments than in his first part of Calum Scott. We therefore expect a concert with more scope and surely with some arrangements.

We expected it (we made a little prediction before the concert): Barbara starts with Je sers. This song tells the story of her experience as a waitress and her aspiration to become a singer. Finally this title is a very good introduction for this concert discovered for some, reunion for others.
Besides, some seem to know her well and we hear someone shouting: "Babou". "No, that's forbidden," Barbara retorts, blushing a little and smiling.
The second title is On s'eveila, which we discovered while reviewing the EP. Live this title is well rowdy and catchy. But even if the music is danceable, Barbara shows us how attentive we are to her words.

Discovering the world of Barbara Pravi

She speaks up: as if her job as a waitress wanted to catch up with her…
"I was working in a café 500 m away." She announces that we are celebrating her first EP.
" Like many artists, I was no exception to the rule. I tell my life. " She explains that she has funny and less funny stories with many characters. "I can't wait for you to meet Sarah, Deda, Louis… and others. "
And this is Sarah. It's a new song, hard but full of tenderness. This is a mother who left in silence. Sublime declaration of love… In the lyrics, Barbara advises us to say I love you and invites communication in relationships in general. We feel very invested.
She continues with yet another title, L'Oubli qui parle de mémoire… Certainly Alzheimer's. We understand that she is talking about her grandmother. The melody sounds a bit oriental. We realize that the theme of death is very present in the songs, but not dark and depressing… Although a little fatalistic. Barbara talks about the passing of time. It is a Carpe Diem : an invitation to enjoy the present time.
His songs are very moving every time and even if the music is very catchy we end up favoring listening.

In the next track, A Fleur de Peau, the young singer is very sensual. She even speaks of sex in a poetic and pictorial way. Only if you listen to his story… She still talks about a toxic relationship. From this addicted side that we can have and the indifference that we receive in return. This new title has a more pronounced electro side. We feel very moved… Is it because the public reacts? It seems like she's reliving what she says with every song.

A feminist singer

Barbara then says that this is the first time that a song has its male and female version. She talks about her rewrite of Eddy de Pretto's Kid that she worked on with Tomislav Matosin. Both were very proud of this version, and had sent it to its original author. The answer came a little brief: "You're a koeur! " Once again she manages to touch us to tears. There is so much accuracy in this adaptation. It is a true hymn to today's woman.
With a little more lightness, we continue with Not to grow. The Star Room makes sense when the lights illuminate the faceted ball. In the audience, we know the song: cheers greet the first notes and everyone sings the chorus.

Barbara recalls that she has less funny stories to tell. This is a hard subject that she will address and that unfortunately happens to many women. She dedicates it to all the Bertrand (Cantat) and Harvey (Weinstein) of the world. This song is called Malamour and is about battered women. We then feel very affected and we understand that there is experience in what she tells. If the answer was not yet clear, it becomes obvious: Barbara is definitely a feminist. Red eyes, almost in tears, she contains herself but once again the emotion is there, perceptible … Almost palpable. We are touched and we really want to comfort her and give her love.

A crazy atmosphere and a surprise end of concert!

Another new piece that seems to talk about soldier but remains quite enigmatic: Silent Heart.
"I love you" fuse in the room after this title as she prepares to sing Louis: a love song inspired by an idiot. She thanks him thanks to him she wrote her first love song. A little gem, disturbing and tender that we love. This piano voice version is very beautiful. There is always this intensity in his voice that gives chills. Barbara lives her songs.
We will then be entitled to a small cover of M: Who of Us Two! The audience takes up the chorus. This song suits him well.

"Not too hot" "Hairy" "

Serious! … Not me! … But you if you want… I don't see you anyway."

She then talks about her childhood and holidays. In the audience, the song Saint Raphael is already being sung. The live drum arrangement is really cool.
The concert is coming to an end and she will end with a tribute to her grandfather singing Deda.
But we are not ready to let her go. The room chants her name and here she is reappearing. She has changed and offers a small tap dance act. She's doing pretty well.
She ends in apotheosis by covering Pas grandir and invites the public to sing with her.

It was a tender and committed fiesta at the same time in front of a conquered audience. Not very complicated at the same time, given the quality of the show. Barbara Pravi is already very confident on stage and we have no doubt that she still has many surprises in store for us. We can't wait to see her release a first album and go on tour!
