Following a long legal battle with her former producer Dr. Luke, Kesha unveils the most personal album of her entire musical career.

Successful versatility

From the very beginning, Kesha has been a technopop and rockpop singer. These two musical genres catapulted her to the top of the most important music lists. However, now that she is outside the artistic monopoly taken over by Dr. Luke, Kesha introduces us to her musical universe for the first time.On the one hand, country music is a huge influence in the album especially in Woman and Finding You and one of the pearls of the album Hunt You Down, which alludes to a female version of Johnny Cash. In addition, country star Dolly Parton accompanied Kesha in Old Flames (Can't Hold a Candle to You), which was more rock-oriented and co-written by Kesha's mother, Pebe Sebert.

Indeed, rock is very present in the album also especially in Let' Em Talk. In addition, it is a perfect mix between a purely pop melody " Whoa, just let' em talk about it" and a rock or hard rock base, in collaboration with the band The Eagles of Death Metal. Finally, spoken/sung rap, very characteristic of Kesha's music, manifests itself in the jewel of the album Boots, Boogie Feet, Hymn and Learn To Let Go. In addition, the acoustic song Bastards, which alludes to The Beatles' Hey Jude and Rainbow, a sublime song that could be perfectly from a repertoire of a musical, highlights that Kesha really pushed her limits as a musician to take her career even higher.

Strong words

Kesha is more intimate than ever in the album Rainbow. Not only does she talk about her greatest pains "Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell, I had to learn how to fight for myself" in the incredible Praying, but she reveals a message of hope such as in Rainbow "I've found a rainbow, rainbow, baby, Trust me, I know, life is scary, But just put those colors on, girl, Come and play along with me tonight". Also, Kesha said she wrote Rainbow to get a guarantee that things would go better.

Rainbow is an album that attacks different musical genres impeccably. In addition, Rainbow has wonderfully exceeded the limits of the singer by staying true to her origins and courageously giving access to the most personal sides of her life.

9/10.
