Considered "one of the young hopefuls of Belgian hip-hop" according to RTBF, TheColorGrey returned on April 24 with a new album entitled Overcome. Justfocus returns to a versatile and heterogeneous project, in the image of the artist.

TheColorGrey or a colorful artist!

TheColorGrey, whose real name is Will Michiels, is a rapper but not only! Singer, songwriter and producer, the Belgian-Congolese artist is passionate about music with multiple talents. Influenced mainly by Anglo-Saxon culture, especially by artists like Paak. Anderson, J Dilla or Kendrick Lamar, he decided to sing in English. His art is therefore the result of Congolese and Anglo-Saxon influences inviting a mixture of musical genres. Indeed, halfway between rap, urban pop, RnB, but also jazz blues and new soul: TheColorGrey shares a very personal musical universe. This musical identity has been refined since after releasing 3 EPs and 1 album between 2016 and 2018, the artist took 2 years to return with a new project. It is a 13-track album entitled Overcome released on April 24. Photo TheColorGrey

An album initially postponed

TheColorGrey announced on January 29 that it had finished its album and was now ready to discover it. He released the same week the single Up All Night, a hit with funky rhythm, and a few days later the video clip. However, the context of the global pandemic somewhat disrupts the artist's plans. Indeed, he told the Belgian magazine HLN that he had postponed the release date of the album originally scheduled for March 27 to April 24. "Everyone was busy then figuring out the best way to deal with the crisis. It didn't feel right to demand attention with my music," he adds. Once the epidemic wave had passed and the deconfinement phase launched, he said it was useless to wait any longer.

Overcome : a rather successful self-produced album!

Overcome is released on all streaming platforms on April 24th: an ideal album for the summer period! Like his influences, the album consists of varied musical atmospheres but which blend well with each other. The rap interlude Black Flowers balances the atmospheres posed by the songs Lost in My Thoughts or Suitcase (Add the Weight). Overcome is a hip hop album with funky atmospheres like the song What's New. The artist explains that he first used a liveband during the recording. If the musicality leads to chill and funky atmospheres, the lyrics can sometimes be melancholic. TheColorGrey evokes in this album the situations and obstacles that human beings must overcome. A good example is the last track, which is the only featuring on the album, with American rapper and producer Oddisee. Indeed, in Out Of My Hands, he hopes that no one will experience deception, hatred or loneliness. The album is accompanied by some equally qualitative visuals! The latest video clip to date is that of the rap interlude Black Flowers, directed by photographer and videographer Jacowbski. To see and listen to this step!
