It's easy to feel the influence of Damon Albarn, the singer of Blur, when listening to the tracks of Johnny Jane, a recent signing of Columbia at Sony Music. The latter also released an EP named JTM on June 10, 2022 in which the tracks Hier soir and Kleenex appear.
Johnny Jane: The hybrid artist
The melancholy and his penchant for partying and alcohol are indeed reminiscent of certain titles of Anglo-Saxon music. We feel, for example, through the title last night, how much it delivers a large part of itself. He admits it in these terms: "On last night, I gave a lot of myself. I wrote very naturally… " and shows it via the clip where he appears vulnerable and surrounded by his loved ones. Thus, the process of creating "Last Night" probably had a cathartic effect on him in relation to events he seems to have experienced. In addition, heartbreak and alcohol seem to be recurring terms since they are also highlighted in his latest production, Kleenex. We find a young woman supposed to play the role of her ex who drowns in alcohol to escape the emotional pain caused by her breakup. The clip interweaves sequences representing the couple and others where she is in the grip of some distress.
