On November 17th, Fabrizio Cammarata's latest album is finally released. A liberation for us as for him! We couldn't wait to share with you this folk gem to listen to urgently.
A singer invested in his songs and who delivers on stage an emotion of rare intensity?
Who is Fabrizio Cammarata?
We no longer introduce you to this Sicilian singer that we discovered last year during the release of his EP In Your Hands. An interview allowed us to learn more about him and meet a beautiful person, shy at first approach, humble, with a sensitive soul and a monstrous talent !
He was performing for the first time at Les Trois Baudet and we were impressed by his voice with a timbre both muffled and rocky, capable of tender murmurs and desperate power. Since… We are following it closely.
Teasing of the album in 3 tracks
Fabrizio will release this week, on November 17, a new album: Of Shadows. You have been able to discover some titles through our playlists:
Long Shadows : A title of disarming sweetness, a sublime love song, sad and beautiful.
Come And Leave a Rose: A poignant piece inspired by a visit to the Père Lachaise cemetery where the singer compares his lost love to an anonymous grave, which without name can remain in the memory.
Then it was the turn of In The Cold that we can listen to entirely on his Bandcamp.
Since a few days, we discover the entire album on his facebook page in bits and pieces. But Justfocus had the chance to listen to the album in its entirety in preview and we tell you everything!
Of Shadows, the new album by Fabrizio Cammarata
The 3 titles we know are the first 3 of this opus. We can already tell you that the album remains in this sublime tone: melancholy, wound, love, tenderness … Spirits and stories from the past. Songs inhabited by lost, disappeared souls… All on a controlled folk music supported by a voice sometimes assured, sometimes broken.
The comparison with Jack Savoretti is always possible (Say Goodbye), but Fabrizio Cammarata has a less Americana, more European identity. We feel more Anglo-Saxon influences (on the title You've Been On My Mind, we are close to U2), but also traditional (Mi Vida)… see ethnic (Naked For You) surely related to his multiple travels.
On some titles, it is tribute (Lorca's Roses), or texts haunted by a poetic presence, such as a specter (What Did I Say).
We melted for I Don't Belong Here, which leaves a taste of salt, a taste of tears. We plunge into a foggy and ghostly atmosphere listening to Hold Me Now, Still Night, as if a being from the afterlife came to turn us around. At the same time, one has the impression that it is a shamanic prayer spell from another world.
And in concert?
There remains one outstanding question: these are studio versions, arranged, with multiple instruments… However, we know that Fabrizio performs alone on stage… And having already experienced enough of his concerts, we have no doubt that it will be very strong and moving. But what will be the guitar / voice rendering? After a remarkable appearance in the first part of Justin Nozuka last October, we can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
