In addition to being a very valuable companion, Maria has a resume that makes more than one artist pale with envy.

Contemporary music has no secrets for her who started the piano at the age of 6.

At the age of 10 she passed the competition of the Royal Academy of London where she won the prize with distinction.

In 2005 she graduated with honors from the National Conservatory of Athens.

In Paris she entered the École Normale de Musique de Paris to continue her higher piano training in classical music and at the same time began a training in computer-assisted music composition that helped her a lot to mix her two favorite styles: classical music and electronic music.

Portrait of INSTELECT pioneer Maria Kotrotsou

-Hello Maria,
Thank you for agreeing to answer a few questions for Justfocus. What led you to make electronic music?

-My passion for classical music slowly led me to discover electronic music and artists like Jean-Michel Jarre

-If you had to collaborate with an artist, who would he be?

-I don't really have a particular artist in mind, or even a priori. In fact, it is really his passion for music that would be the main criterion. Above all, it's important for me to share this same passion for music.
But if I had to choose, Jean-Michel Jarre would really be the ultimate artist I would want to collaborate with. As I mentioned before, he was the one who made me want to get involved in electronic music.

– When you listen to your three albums and watch the videos of your concerts, you notice a completely new musical style. Can you tell us more?

-As its name suggests, it is a composition mixing instrumental and electro music. There are violin, cello, flute, bass clarinet, synthesizer and drum machine.
In practice, it is a composition of contemporary music (modern classical), playing the synthesizer and using rhythm pads that I create for each piece, on which my instrumental ensemble plays its parts whether for an album or for a concert. Anyway, the music I compose, either INTELLECT, New Age, or modern classical music, I produce it on the stage and on my albums too.

Video with some excerpts from INSTELECT to enhance our point:

-How would you describe your latest album, SILENCE?

– My album is complete, the compositions are not all from INSTELECT, there are compositions including piano, synthesizer and vocals too. There is modern classical music, New Age music. It's the first time I've written and put vocals in an album. I was very happy with the feedback I got from the messages from the listeners and from the audience of my concerts. The song "Nous Deux", for example, is a song of the INSTELECT style. It is a song, mixed with electro music and classical instruments.

-By the way, you did a concert on May 26th. How did you feel about being in contact with the Parisian public?

-I have a very good memory of the world come and their presence really very warm. That's really what I felt, it moved me a lot, it was a very good moment.

-Do you have any other upcoming event dates?

-My next concert will be as part of the Musical'IN show, at the end of January 2019.
