Laura Anglade and Sam Kirmayer are a good pair. The two jazz musicians are teaming up for a guitar-voice album, Viens donc chez Moi, announced for May 20, 2022 on the Canadian label Justin Time Records. The album reveals beautiful nuggets, like this adaptation of Michel Delpech's success, Chez Laurette, which we selected on Justfocus. Jazz singer Laura Anglade is currently making a name for herself on the Canadian jazz scene and beyond. Originally from Brousse-le-Château, a small village in southern France, Laura grew up in Connecticut and is now based in Montreal. Influenced by her parents' musical journey, the 23-year-old singer has been inspired by her idols, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan and Anita O'Day since a very young age. Although we hear influences from Julie London, Helen Merrill and Cyrille Aimée, it is obvious that her voice is her own. Laura has made several appearances on stages in New York, Toronto, Quebec City and Montreal and has performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. His debut album "I've Got Just About Everything," released in June 2019 on Justin Time Records, was hailed by critics and fans alike. Guitarist and composer Sam Kirmayer plays direct jazz with "fearlessness and momentum" – Katie Malloch (CBC Jazz Beat & Tonic). … Kirmayer is a co-founder of the Société Jazz de Saint-Henri and maintains an active performance schedule as a leader and sideman, with frequent performances across Canada. Until Covid-19, Sam maintained an active performance schedule with frequent appearances across Quebec and Ontario as a leader and sideman and several residencies in Montreal. He is also the founder and host of a weekly jam session in his neighborhood, Saint-Henri (Oscar Peterson's hometown). The session has now lasted for more than two years.
