On May 19, the famous first Double V project by comedian Yvick aka Mister V was released. Everyone was talking about it around me.
Becoming almost the new and main societal issue of the moment. It would be lying to you to say that I was not expecting this album. Indeed I was impatient to add it to my albums on Spotify. Having followed his channel like many young people of my generation I had fully become aware of the comedian's interest in rap. The launch of his channel Mister V Music foreshadowed serious projects to come. His video officially announced it a short time ago.
He was also able to afford to skip the usual promotion process thanks to his involved community. As he himself announces, this project is the result of nearly two years of hard work. So we feel that he put his heart into it before feeling it as a simple obligation. He signs this project in collaboration with Geronimo Beats at the prod, the young beatmaker one of these close relationships for a while also sees the opportunity to assert himself on this project. In addition to this we also find his crew from Grenoble with Tortoz, Samy Ceezy and Juice. But also the Lumière brothers, an explosive duo whose latest project of Hayce Lemsi had marked the spirits.
This album does not have a general theme. An approach that is becoming more and more democratized in rap to our delight. But what is it worth? What's in store? We still notice a dominant atmosphere, Geronimo brings in these prods a very dark side plated on big bass spread.
This project is rather part of a trap side of rap that we know now. Mister V has done a lot of work on the choruses, all more catchy than the others they are easily printed in our head. The first step is difficult, managing to dissociate the comedian from the rapper is not easy but it is essential to listen to this project. Finally the ego trip is not present, we learn relatively little about Yvick. He spends little time spreading his personal life we are largely facing a project where he will place himself in superior figure to the rest of the rap game.
Humor still keeps a major place in this project, we sometimes smile listening to certain phases, but they are not the best. Where humor almost entirely disappears, a real syncope of our brains takes place in the face of the quality of the titles. Mister V takes very wide influences mixing US and FR. We feel this in the prods and the flow but also in the rhymes released.
His broad influences allow him to keep the best of these different styles. He still manages to develop a real style in his writing and flow. He handles many literary devices well which gives a general sound very well managed. His use of the auto tune is absolutely not a surprise. In these videos and networks it was very easy to understand that he loved it. The fact of allowing himself this artistic freedom is great because thanks to it he was able to develop his universe and expand his sound palette.
This first project is amazing, we did not expect this. It is quite impressive to see a first project of such quality. This was surely facilitated by his rather wide entourage to specific advice only it would be bad faith to deny him this work. The content and form were surely managed by Yvick which would have earned him a standing ovation in Cannes.
The young Grenoble has changed a lot since his podcasts on the bac. We feel that it has grown and matured. This project holds great things to bode well for the future. But we feel that he can not totally detach himself from humor, perhaps for fear of losing his audience. Only this is what remains as one of the only negative points of this album. We just hope for a next project without humor even if Double V is for the moment one of the best albums of the year.
