This weekend, head to Barcelona for the 3rd edition of the DGTL Spanish version. Focus on our favorites.
On Friday 11 and Saturday 12 August, the Parc del Forum will once again welcome the cream of international electro artists for two days under the sign of music and sunshine. To name just a few names in the program, whose latest artists were announced a few weeks ago, remember that we find Jeff Mills, Maceo Plex, Marcel Dettmann, Âme, Derrick May or Recondite among the headliners.
As the heart of the editorial team leans towards techno, a focus on the artists that we will not miss this weekend was necessary.
MATRIXXMAN
The American, Charles M. Duff of his real name, has made his place in the world of dark and cold techno in recent years with EPs released on Dekmantel and an LP on Ghostly International. We had discovered him on the small stage of the Club during a Peacock Society and had been caught up in the power of his set. In other words, we can't wait to see him back in action.
MARCEL DETTMANN
A sure value of techno, the German is a regular at festivals and it is even surprising not to see him on a lineup. Faithful to the position, he returns to the Parc del Forum but this time without his sidekick Ben Klock, with whom he recently produced "Phantom Studies", an EP released on Ostgut Ton. Although seeing him on stage has become a habit, it is difficult to get tired of it as his sets are effective. We will necessarily take a look at his performance, scheduled at the end of the first evening, just to see if he takes us further than the Peacock Society in early July, where, rarely, he had left us a little hungry.
KÖLSCH B2B MICHAEL MAYER
The two producers and friends have already collaborated together for the creation of the tracks "Dogma 1" & "Dogma 2" released last year on Kölsch's new label, Ipso. The alliance of the latter and Michael Mayer, the boss of the Kompakt label, on the stage of DGTL Barcelona, promises to be very interesting. It promises a very beautiful moment.
REITERATED
On stage on the second night, the German Recondite who oscillates between EP and LP published among others on Dystopian, Innversions, Gosthly International, Hotflush Recordings or Acid Test, will perform live. The richness of his creations and the wide range of styles he explores gives his music a marked universe and an interesting, even intriguing dimension. The memory left by his live during the Peacock Society 2016 edition, reinforces us in the idea that he is clearly one of the artists who makes us fly to Barcelona.
AMELIE LENS
The young Belgian has made a nice place on the international techno scene in a very short time and now shares the bill with recognized artists. After productions released on Lyase Recording and Second State, created by the duo Pan-Pot, she released a few months ago, still on the latter label, "Contradiction", an EP of 3 tracks. With an alliance of hard techno and vocals, Amelie Lens imposes a strong style that promises a beautiful evolution.
KARENN
This duo born from the meeting of Blawan and Pariah is in our eyes, and especially in our ears, one of the unmissable of the lineup of this edition. Enveloping and sharp, their techno is magnified by excellent four-handed performances.Known for live anthology, we remember their London Boiler Room, the two English producers will certainly offer a powerful dive of 1h30 in their dark and complex universe.
Beyond the favorites of the editors, the lineup in its entirety is more than attractive and the announcement of the timetable does not facilitate the task. With four stages per night and about fifty artists in total, we will have to choose.
The strength of the DGTL is undoubtedly not only to offer a music festival but a complete and original event on all levels. Always in a logic of innovation over the years, we will find the DGTL Revolution Program which aims to be respectful of the environment as well as 100% vegetarian and the DGTL Art Program which exhibits a selection of young artists. To extend the two evenings at the Forum, the most motivated will be able to count on the traditional after parties at the Nitsa club and the DGTL in The Park, on Sunday afternoon.
If you give in to temptation by this weekend, two-day passes are sold out but there are still day tickets. In the meantime, we leave you with our beautiful memories of the 2016 edition.
