Chico César returns on September 23 with the album Vestido de Amor, his tenth and first album recorded outside Brazil. The album establishes strong connections with Africa for the good of our ears. Chico César celebrates Pan-Africanism with this record nourished by travels and encounters between Brazil, Africa and France. Originally from northeastern Brazil, Chico César, born in 1964, is a multiple musician, champion of universality who makes all the rhythms of the world his own. Former journalist, author of several collections of poetry, he chiseles texts that put his talent at the service of a commitment not only to culture (he was the secretary of his native state, Paraíba for several years) but also to the environment, oppressed minorities, Indians and blacks, victims of a racism that he himself suffered. In 11 songs, Chico César offers a bouquet of colors and scents specific to the genius of the MPB (musica popular brasileira). Our senses are awakened from A Flor do Figo, a song about the fig blossom, invisible on the tree because hidden inside the sycone: musical shoot of the tropicalism of Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. It was the first song he composed during the pandemic, under the Uruguayan sun, and it caused other fruits to sproute. Even if you do not necessarily understand the lyrics of his songs, you should know that he is first and foremost a complete musician, wonderful melodist, singer, producer, stage man. Quick money… And for all this he is one of the major figures of the current Brazilian music scene. So, on the desert island, you will have to think about taking your entire discography, because at Chico César there is nothing to throw away.
