On Friday, October 26, 2018, the Swingin Bayonne was in concert at the Caveau de le Huchette for a Jazzy Swing performance in 3 classical sets. Timeless atmosphere, irresistible music and draft beer from the house at the rendezvous.
Friday night weekend is sacred. And me, when I don't know what makes me want, I go to the Caveau de la Huchette with a handful of friends. As soon as I arrived in the basement of the Quai Saint-Michel, I realized how much I had missed the most mythical cellar in Paris.
Nice, that evening it was the Swingin Bayonne who went up on the narrow stage of the Caveau. Usually in Trio formation, the group once again invites Claude Braud to form a more melodic and especially warmer Quartet. The Swing is at the rendezvous, the dancers can advance on the track. No manners, whether we know how to dance well or not, we do not resist for long the Chorus of Tenor, even less the Bi-ternary of the Charleston. The Quartet regaled its audience with some revisited classics catchy for both feet and eardrums.
Indeed, the group has a considerable advantage. Everyone is supposed to benefit from it. The miser of dancing rhythmic structures, whether slow or frantic, to place his footwork. And the purist music lover see musician who hopes to put under the ear some Blue Notes that come out of the ordinarily overwhelming. Well-felt improvisations, rhythmic breaks more modern than usual, and to hell with saturated scores. It is by communicating that we play together. "Uh, when do we change phases already?»…
Just look at yourself, right? One glance over the soloist's shoulder and voila.
But That's not All. Good Swin is like good food, timeless. Labastie (Piano), Quillart (Double Bass) and Duverdier (Drums) know how to travel. 50's of course, to delight the oldest among us, but also fans of Back to the Future! The 60' and the outburst of Rock'N Roll that does not fail to sweat in the croches of the pianist. The 70' too, the most prolific decade in history, years of the globalization of music and the sharing of the USA and their recipe for Groove. Nothing was missing, nothing at all. We still do not know where the "BAYONNE" comes from, but no doubt about the "SWINGIN".
Now accustomed to the place, the group was once again sold out as it has been since 2016. The lesson has been learned. We will return to the Caveau, which offers as always a program of thunder.
