If the name of Black Lilys is still unknown to you, keep it well in mind because it may not leave you soon. Camille and Robin, a sister, a brother and a completely mesmerizing music whose first album, Boxes, cast a spell on us. Impossible to get rid of, it's a breath of fresh air.

It is at the death of their mother that Camille and Robin Faure, two Lyonnais, meet and find each other musically. In a strong need to express themselves, they get closer: she on vocals, he on guitar, the siblings come together in contact with notes and words. From these compositions born Black Lilys, an incredible musical project that we absolutely had to talk to you.

In April 2014, they released their first EP, Memories of a Blind Mind. It is already an identity in the making: the idea is there, the voice rests on it, the music is still looking for itself.
Tours, scenes… Then there's Blood Ties, a second EP… and finally their first album, Boxes, released on March 30th!

Boxes is a magical album, a pagan incantation sung by a witch's voice from another time. Camille's enchanting timbre reminds us of a divine blend of Flyleaf, Aurora and CocoRosie. So many references taken from a varied repertoire and which immediately classifies the music of Black Lilys in the atypical category… Out of the ordinary!

Their music is mystical, but at the same time so rooted in reality. It speaks to our bodies and souls… One dragging the other into a trance. All our senses are awakened by listening to Boxes and here is an account of this auditory experience.

We enter the world of siblings by Blood Ties, which is also the title of their latest EP, released in April 2017, a year ago. Blood Ties confirmed Robin and Camille's paste and already contained a number of songs that appear on the album. From the first bars, the tone is set: flight, invitation to inner journey, lyricism and escape. And this feeling will continue throughout the titles. The rhythms are echoes of the beating of our heart: it shakes, it vibrates, it swings us, it moves us…. it frees us!

Boxes is the title that allowed us to discover the group and it's a huge crush! A tender and powerful piece, dark and bright at the same time, all in contrast. A touch of madness inhabits this song… It tickles something deep inside us.

Nightfall is like a kind of ritual. We feel the installation, the rise in tension, in intensity. Then it arises to start again. The rhythm gives us the impression of shortness of breath. It's exciting!

Dust Of You is a sweet little ballad that rocks us. Like moonlight after dark.

Wrong Timing begins as a siren song that will haunt the song to the end. The guitar sounds almost like a harp.

Shelter wants to be reassuring, an ode perhaps, a voluble poetry that floats in the ear, light and warm.

Here is a stage of the trip: Istanbul. Almost religious piece, imposing and strong. We feel like we are facing something that is beyond us. Impressive and excessive.

The following title, Behind the Street, immediately made us think of Archive. A little side Again assumed. A tribute perhaps? A real pleasure in any case.

Land of Joy is more rhythmic, more catchy, less contemplative. We are on the move, on a road trip… on horseback surely… and we cross multiple landscapes.

Color My Soul is a poignant moment on the album. It is a spoken confession, it is a speech, a call! Its emotional reach is reminiscent of Mary Lambert's Body Love. There is a lot of sadness and melancholy in this song. It haunts us once again over.

Mama Bi Mena concludes the album. A kind of sweet nursery rhyme too, whose chorus is sung in a language that I have not managed to define. Anyway, it looks like a tribute to their mother.

Boxes is certainly a call to let go, to get out of this box that is ours, in which we lock ourselves: a call to live fully.A return to nature too, to our deep, free and wild nature.A return to the source finally to reveal ourselves to ourselves. If there is something tribal in the music of Black Lilys, we clearly want to join the tribe!
