What is Juneteenth ?
Juneteenth is what is called a portmanteau word. It is created from two words: June and Nineteenth, or June 19. This date refers to 1865. It represents the emancipation of African-American slaves in Texas and the South of the United States formerly called the Confederate South. Specifically, it commemorates the announcement that General Gordon Granger of the Union Army made proclaiming the liberation of Texas slaves. Not to be confused with President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. It had been in force since 1863. Nor is it to be confused with the abolition of slavery. Although it was abolished in the Southern states, it remained legal in some areas after June 19, 1865. Slavery was abolished throughout the country a few months later, on December 6, 1865. 
Black Parade by Beyoncé
The song called Black Parade was written by Beyoncé and co-produced by Deret Dixie. We also find Jay-Z, the husband of the singer, as co-writer. It lasts 5 minutes, but a longer version is available on the TIDAL platform. What does this have to do with Juneteenth? The piece in its entirety. The lyrics are directly related to this historical event as we can read it from the first verse: I go back to the south I go back, backward, backward , back Where my roots are not attenuated She continues: Being black is perhaps the reason why they are always furious A song strong by the lyrics but also by the actions. Because the profits will be donated to black entrepreneurs. A committed movement on the part of the singer who also recently spoke out to defend George Floyd.
