It is true that the hip-hop scene remains predominantly male. However, in the United States, as in other countries such as England, some women have risen to the top. Whether artists from previous generations, such as Missy Eliott or Lil' Kim, or current artists such as Nicki Minaj, 070 Shake or Cardi B: women make their voices heard. However, in recent days, we have been witnessing a historic event for female artists and more particularly black artists thanks to 2 collaborations.

Release of 2 surprise remixes

As every week, many are waiting for the results of the Billboard Hot 100 chart which reveals the 100 most popular songs in the United States. The first week of May was rich in releases, including Drake's mixtape, but also the surprise release of 2 remixes. Two remixes of 2 sounds heavily streamed via the TikTok app, namely the sound of Megan Thee Stallion Savage and Say so by Doja Cat. Megan and Doja then had the opportunity to respectively invite two great artists on their track since the Savage remix is a featuring Beyonce and Say so with Nicki Minaj. The featuring between Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce was released on April 29 and that of Doja Cat featuring Nicki Minaj, the next day. If this situation suggested rumors of competition between the 2 duos, they were quickly shortened. Cover of the 2 remixes: Savage and Say so

4 women making history

The revelation of the Billboard Hot 100 chart marks a historic step in the music industry. From rivalry to unity there is only one step and this is what these 4 artists have shown us. Indeed, for the first time in history, 4 black women are at the top of this ranking. If the discovery of the top chart was a happy surprise for the public, it was also for the main concerned. Megan and Nicki both spoke through their networks and rejoiced to be witnesses and protagonists of this historic moment. Other artists, such as R&B singer Kehlani and rapper Wiz Khalifa, have also reacted to this ranking. These 2 featurings then represent a strong symbol for black artists, but even more for rappers. 4 Black Women at the Top of the Billboard Hot 100: A First

A positive dynamic for women in hip-hop

Yes, hip-hop is a musical field where men reign but women also have their place. However, lately, relations between rappers seemed to be deteriorating. Just look at the strong animosity present between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B to realize that friendship between women in rap does not seem to exist. To believe that there is a single place in the rap/Hip-Hop industry among women. For a long time, the only female collaborations between rappers were mostly with female pop singers. Complex magazine also points out that the No. 1 position of Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj had not arrived since the song Fancy by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX in 2014. Only 4 female collaborations have risen to 1st position in this ranking. The only duo of R&B singers dates back to the 80s with Brandy and Monica. Nevertheless, with these 2 collaborations, the dynamic may take a new turn. It is now conceivable to see several women succeed in the field. This is all the more enjoyable when it comes to teamwork and mutual aid between women. The Savage and Say So remixes are therefore both striking sounds for a whole young generation but also advocating female emancipation. It is also a symbol between already established and established artists lending their support to a new wave of young singers.
