Finally, the fourth installment of the rejuvenated X-Men saga reveals the tip of its nose. After Apocalypse in 2016, Bryan Singer dropped the direction, replaced at short notice by Simon Kinberg, the writer and producer of the X-Men saga. First explosive images but reminiscent of the treatment of The Final Confrontation.
And yes in 2006, Brett Ratner already told the story of Jean Grey who transforms into Phoenix. Even if this story is exciting and a true classic of comics, the feature film, despite some good moments, disappointed aficionados of the genre. With Dark Phoenix, Simon Kinberg wants to straighten the shot and offer Jean Grey an end worthy of the name. However, these first images do not really seem to move away from the classic plot: Jean Grey who gradually loses control of her powers, the other mutants who freak out, the humans who freak out and Charles Xavier / Magneto who seek to control her. In short, nothing new in mutants.

Dark Phoenix once again brings together this new cast. The inveterates of the first hour resume their roles: Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique who seems to have taken a hit, James McAvoy as Professor X who will try once again to stabilize his relationship with Magneto always played by the excellent Michael Fassbender and finally Nicolas Hoult is still The Fauve. The latter seems to have joined the Magneto camp. The newcomers of Apocalypse are also part of the party: Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Diablo, Evan Peters is briefly seen in the role of Quicksilver and finally of course Sophie Turner is the new Jean Grey. As for the antagonist played by Jessica Chastain she is barely present in this first trailer.
Anyway these first images tend to reassure fans since the film was on borrowed time against the acquisition of Fox by Marvel. We do not yet know the fate of The New Mutants and Gambit, but Dark Phoenix seems to be safe. See you on February 13.
