While Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) ended triumphantly with Endgame (even if officially it is Spiderman: Far From Home that closes this Phase), it is Infinity War that we will talk about today. Because one question remains: why did none of the original Avengers disappear during the snap of Thanos' finger? A very dark atmosphere, an intergalactic tyrant and crucial stakes… Infinity War is probably the most important film in the MCU. Indeed, Thanos is looking for the famous infinity stones to perfect his evil design: that of making half of humanity disappear in a snap. He wants to rebalance the universe and fight against overpopulation. At the end of the film, the mad titan has his way. Half of the universe disappears. We remember the emotional farewell of Spiderman, played by Tom Holland, to his mentor Iron Man. However, six people do not disappear. Indeed, they are our six original Avengers: Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye. Then? Pure chance or scriptwriting choice? We would lean towards the second option. Indeed, the writers preferred to spare our avengers for reasons illustrated in Endgame. The beginning of the film begins with these 6 characters. We follow their evolution following the snap of the finger. Hawkeye becomes Ronin, Bruce Banner becomes "Smart Hulk", Thor falls into depression… Those who stopped Thanos' invasion before now face their failure and guilt. This choice to keep the six original Avengers then demonstrates a desire to push their psychology to the maximum (as evidenced by the little action in Avengers: Endgame). And if we enter the vast world of theories (as fans like to do), we can have fun thinking that Thanos voluntarily left them alive. Why? There can be many reasons.
- It may be a willingness to let them live with their failure, despite everything they have tried to stop it.
- Or it may be a mark of respect for those who have fought it for so long. After all, we know that Thanos has great respect for his opponents.
In conclusion, in Infinity War, this famous "Snap" of Thanos was perhaps not so much focused on chance. Our favorite heroes were probably spared on purpose. Only to serve the interest of Avengers Endgame and its epic final battle ? Unsure!
