The highly anticipated feature film to follow Top Gun is a little discreet. However, additional information has been provided for some time.

Last June, Tom Cruise aka Pete "Maverick" Mitchell revealed the official title: Top Gun: Maverick, and evoked the return of composer Harold Faltermeyer. In the meantime, the team has grown.

Indeed, director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: the legacy, Only the brave), having worked with Cruise on Oblivion and already approached earlier, has been confirmed for the direction of this sequel, still produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Actor Val Kilmer, the rival "Iceman" of the first part, also repiled in June. The actor had already expressed his interest in returning. New side are Jennifer Connelly (An exceptional man), Glen Powell (Shadow Figures) and Miles Teller (War dogs) who will play the son of "Goose", one of Mitchell's friends.

In terms of the script, several names collaborated until the final result: Peter Craig (The town), Eric Warren Singer (The Investigation), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) and the duo Ashley Miller / Zack Stentz (Thor). It seems that the story presents us with the "old school" of pilots confronting the "new generation" that are combat drones, while remaining faithful to the previous film.

Filming began in May, as evidenced by a teaser image posted by Tom Cruise at the time:

Succeeding a monument of American culture such as Top Gun is not easy, but it seems that everything is in good hands.

Top Gun: Maverick is supposed to be released on July 31, 2019 in France, so let's expect what could be THE movie of next summer.
