Transformers – The Last Knight: 24 minutes of excerpts… Unconvincing

Transformers – The Last Knight promises to be one of the biggest releases of 2017. So, to make the mouths of fans water, Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures decided to organize an exceptional event by presenting 24 minutes of unreleased clips. A taste that unfortunately results in a half-hearted result. Let's take a look back at these few excerpts.

Warning

One thing should be made clear from the beginning: the preview clips were handpicked and were not finished in terms of special effects or editing. We must therefore take the next remarks with tweezers, since various changes may take place in the coming weeks until the release of the film. That being said, let's get to the heart of the matter!

Transformers 5 - 2

A registry problem

Known for its greasy humor and sequences close to boulevard comedy, the Transformers saga seemed to take a much more solemn tone in this episode 5. This is in any case what promises us the trailers with a particularly serious look, including the very last one released a few days ago

However, in the first excerpts shown, we witness a mess of registers, as if Michael Bay did not know on which foot to dance to satisfy everyone. The scenes shown are ineffective and unattractive, where the first trailers had done a perfect job. The humor is inappropriate, misplaced and has the effect of a wet firecracker. The emotion is absent despite the various attempts, and the group of children presented is not really endearing (it would even tend to be irritating). So obviously, it is impossible to correctly judge scattered extracts presented at a promotional event. But perhaps it would have been more relevant to show the audience parts of the film that were a little more enticing and representative of the finished product.

Interesting ideas

At first glance, a movie with Transformers, the Knights of the Round Table and Nazis, it was slightly worrying (sweet understatement). However, it is clear that linking the Transformers to the myth of Excalibur could be interesting. Obviously, it transpires the deliciously kitsch but no matter! If the treatment is good, after all, why not?

Transformers 5 - 3

The idea of a purge of Transformers by humans is also quite interesting. The war between the flesh and metal hopes seems to do serious damage in the latter camp, as the Transformers are coldly eliminated indiscriminately. Cade (Mark Wahlberg) meanwhile, does not seem to be at the end of his adventures. Chased by killer drones and helped by a Transformers halfway between C-3PO and K-2SO, he will find himself face to face with a particularly mysterious Anthony Hopkins. Anthony Hopkins who is also one of the most intriguing elements of this future opus. Always charismatic and talented, he seems to know a lot about the Transformers and their history.

Finally, bringing Optimus Prime to the dark side is one of the most interesting dramatic issues in this saga of which he has been the hero since the beginning.Of course, he was never the only Transformers put forward, but Prime has always had a prominent place among the metal monsters Autobots. Only one question remains unanswered: will he return to the right side of the fence to become the hero he was?

So Transformers 5 has the potential, but will the treatment be up to the task? Hard to say… Even if the first extracts presented leave something to be desired, we want to give the benefit of the doubt to Michael Bay and his team, who have done a significant job for this new episode.

Mind-boggling visual potential

Transformers – The Last Knight is the very first film to have been shot in IMAX 3D and that, Michael Bay is not a little proud! That is understandable. The visual potential of this next opus is simply incredible and should amaze all moviegoers and other lovers of great shows.

Bay has bet everything on the immersion it can offer its viewers thanks to the most advanced Hollywood technical processes. This aspect of the film seems at first glance to be a total success. Whether it's the action scenes or the quietest moments, the environments are almost palpable and we are surprised to want to venture to the screen to engage in these film sets.

These 24 minutes of Transformers – The Last Knight end in semi-failure . If the visuals of the saga are more convincing than ever, the treatment of the story is really not reassuring despite rather nice ideas. We can only hope that these excerpts were not the most representative of the film and that this new opus will offer us an action-entertainment film that lives up to its ambitions.
