Netflix also wants its superhero movie. If superheroic productions are still numerous in series, in films they are a little rarer lately. That's where Project Power comes in.
Netflix to the rescue of superheroes?
The fault of a virus that will have closed most of the dark rooms around the world. And this despite their re-openings in France, since June at least. These see many productions, especially American, postpone their releases. Why? Because American cinemas always have closed doors, and so it is also in other countries. Couple that with the fact that not all spectators who have the opportunity to go there are necessarily inclined to do so. This is why heroines like Black Widow or Wonder Woman 1984 have postponed their entry on the scene. So, result, since the summer of 2019, we have no more news of them (or October if we take into account Joker). Much less than usual for our heroes. It is therefore Netflix that relaunches film productions with superheroes. The platform with the red N has already touched the genre with the series How to raise a superhero produced by Michael B. Jordan. But, the seventh art had not yet had this honor, it is now done. Here is the synopsis: In the streets of New Orleans, circulates a mysterious pill that releases superpowers. Only, the reaction is different for each person. Impossible to know if the pill will give you a power among: bulletproof skin, invisibility, superhuman strength, etc. or death. Crime being multiplied, a cop teams up with a young dealer and a former soldier to try to fight and arrest those who invented it.
An attractive project on paper
In any case, with this first trailer and this pitch, the atmosphere and the theme can make us think of the Amazon Prime series The Boys. Or the French film How I Became a Superhero by Douglas Attal which should be released in December 2020. In short, it seems that the genre revolves around the thriller and the police investigation. We can't wait to see the result of this mixture. In addition, we can discover an ambitious cast worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster, headlined by the duo Jamie Foxx / Joseph Gordon-Levitt. And writing Mattson Tomlin, who is working on Matt Reeves' next Batman. Rather enticing. Finally, also noted that the story takes place in New Orleans, a city not common in films of this genre. And it feels good to see a different setting than the Big Apple. So, if this movie doesn't ring a bell, this is where it happens if you want to see the rest of the Netflix program for the month of August. But Project Power comes out on August 14, 2020 on the platform, and we can't wait!
