Almost 8 years after the third part, the famous Toy Story toys are back in theaters for a new film. Initially scheduled for summer 2018, the cartoon signed Pixar will see the light of day almost a year later.
"They threw three-quarters of the script in the trash and rewrote it"
2018 is already ranked among the dark years of the giant Pixar. Following the accusations of moral and sexual harassment against John Lasseter, the artistic director of Pixar Animations Studios and Walt Disney Animations Studios, nothing seems to go straight for the American company. The animated film Toy Story 4 has paid the price: after the controversy about the Lasseter case, the two pillars writers of the cartoon Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, slam the door of the studios. And it seems that the two colleagues have caused disorder within Pixar, since the release of the film, scheduled for the summer of 2018, has been delayed by a year.It is now registered as of June 26, 2019.
In an interview with Radio Times, Annie Potts, the actress lending her voice to the shepherdess in the film, reveals information about this delay:
"Toy Story 4 was supposed to come out this year but they threw three-quarters of the script in the trash and rewrote it. Usually, from the beginning to the end of the project, it takes two years. But since they threw everything around and started all over again, my time on this project was extended. I worked on it a lot. I have a big role in it. That's great! They're funny at Pixar. They just take their time. They do an extremely careful job. If they don't like certain parts of what they do, they eliminate them and start over. They have a lot of creative freedom that allows them to do that."
If Annie Potts evokes having in this fourth part a "great role", it is because the character of the shepherdess could well be at the center of the story. Indeed, the scenario will revolve around the love story between the shepherdess and Woody the cowboy, who will always be voiced by Tom Hanks.
If the French release date of Toy Story 4 has been postponed to the summer of 2019, its companion The Incredibles 2, signed Pixar, will indeed appear on the big screen on July 4, 2018.
