Soon on the poster of The Mummy, Tom Cruise returns to Top Gun 2 and gives some details, including the title of the film.

Now the sequel to Top Gun is called Top Gun: Maverick. The filming is confirmed and Tom Cruise will return to his character of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell who will be, given the title, certainly at the center of this new story. The actor expanded on the subject near Access Hollywood and said that this sequel would be very faithful to the original work of Tony Scott who gave worldwide popularity to Tom Cruise in 1986:
"We'll have the same tone as in the first one, really. Stylistically, it will be the same. We're going to have the same Harold Faltermeyer soundtrack… The [Ray-Ban] Aviators will be back. The intoxication of speed. We're going to have huge, fast machines."
Filming should begin soon but producer Jerry Bruckheimer has still not found a director. It is rumored that Joseph Kosinski, the director of Oblivion would be at the top of the list to direct the project. Val Kilmer is not yet confirmed but in his last statements he had said to be up for it if the story lent itself to it, and if Tom Cruise was back. This is done for a project that is starting to take off.
