In the middle of a promotional campaign, the Venom film team and spectators are preparing for the release of the film on the Nemesis of Spiderman. The black symbiote hasn't arrived in our theaters yet but we already have clips available online and trailers coming regularly. These videos are obviously not the only parts of this extensive communication campaign and several interviews have already been done. And this week, Tom Hardy (who plays Venom) spoke to MTV UK and took the opportunity to talk about his desires for the anti-hero.
The fantasy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is total and has invaded the world in a few years. After the construction of a universe rich in characters and stories, theories and crossovers are created. We've seen our heroes come together in ever more impressive films. But when the Venom movie was announced last year, theories were plentiful even before the film's first frames. Everyone imagined that we would see Spiderman in this movie, that he would be linked to the MCU and that we would see the symbiote in a movie related to the Avengers.
For the moment, no theory can be validated and we will know more in 2 weeks (and yes, already!). Tom Hardy, however, has already had fun talking about the subject, via an interview given to MTV UK in which he spoke about his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
"It would be fun for Venom to come to the Avengers but the decision is not mine. Venom would certainly face them. I'd really like to shake up this established family and get them into the pile. "
The image of superheroes and Venom with the public
A commitment that will make any Avengers fan smile. Venom is a villain in his own right at Marvel and to see so much involvement in an actor is nice. Tom Hardy is an excellent actor and to see him so invested is a great pleasure. But, as he said in the last issue of Première, he felt out of place in a superhero universe:
"Basically, superhero stories don't interest me. They don't do anything to me and have never done anything to me… But superhero movies take on a new resonance for me today because my son is crazy about them and I now understand their symbolic value… They create bridges to bring adults and children together. I understand their power of attraction."
A point of view that has evolved for our greatest pleasure! It should also be noted that contrary to some refractory opinions, Tom Hardy understands the role of superheroes in the current cinematographic landscape. A point of view that can only be appreciated.
But but! Should we be happy to eventually see Venom among the Avengers? Is this really a good idea? Because ultimately, what we love about Venom is its instability, its unique appearance and its devastating violence! An image that is far from that of the MCU, where violence is not at the center of the fighting. Tom Hardy says it himself: the MCU brings together adults and children. However, Venom should not integrate this universe. While the film seems to have been somewhat modified to suit a wider audience, fans of the first hour are all asking the same question: will Venom be up to the task? Is he made to fight the Avengers. A priori no and that's why the film is (for the moment) not related to the MCU. An interesting situation for the moment but we will see how the position of the film evolves.
Tom Hardy has desires, fans have too. But will we be able to have a film that unites absolute symbiote fans and younger fans? These are vague questions but we will have a good part of our answers on October 10 for the release of the film Venom in our theaters.
