After playing Walt Disney, Tom Hanks would be in negotiations to play Gepetto in the live-action remake of Pinocchio. Tom Hanks continues to add up critical success both in cinema and on video-on-demand platforms such as Apple TV+ where he recently appeared in USS Greyhounds: The Battle of the Atlantic. The man who played the role of Walt Disney even won an Oscar nomination for bringing Mr. Rogers back to life in The Extraordinary Mr. Rogers. This time, the legendary actor focuses on another character adored by the general public but much older. Indeed, the site Deadline tells us that Tom Hanks would be in negotiations to be assigned the role of Gepetto in the live-action of Pinocchio. He should find the director Robert Zemeckis for Disney. This rumor is resurfacing after being more or less denied some time ago. It is true that in 2018, there was already talk of Tom Hanks for this golden role. The film was not yet in the hands of his long-time partner, Robert Zemeckis, with whom he shot Forrest Gump (1994), Alone in the World (2000) and The Pole Express (2004). Although negotiations are still at an early stage, we learn that after reading the script, Tom Hanks contacted Zemeckis and let him know he wanted to make the film. Disney has always wanted the famous actor to embody the mythical woodcarver, having approached him years ago, when Paul King was attached to directing. This agreement never came to fruition. But given the long-standing relationship between Hanks and Zemeckis — dating back to when they both won Oscars for their work on Forrest Gump — it now seems more serious. On the production side, we will find the duo Andrew Milano – Chris Weitz. Thus, with this duo of shock, Disney intends to achieve a feat similar to their previous success of live-action remakes (Aladdin, The Lion King, Dumbo …). We note that other adaptations are on stage such as Hercules, Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lilo and Stitch or an "origin story" on Cruella d'Enfer, already shot, and with Emma Stone in the lead role. Tom Hanks will soon resume work on the Elvis Presley-focused biopic for Warner Bros., which was interrupted as a result of the pandemic. We can't wait to (re)discover one of the most famous cinematographic duos namely Hanks-Zemeckis but, this time, in an adventure as crazy as magical.
