Avengers Endgame introduced us to "Fat Thor". A depressive version of the God of Thunder, letting himself go to the point of losing his stature of great sportsman … For Thor 4, PETA offers a drastic solution to the character's weight loss: veganism! Currently, Thor – Love and Thunder is being written and we still do not know if it will return to its original physical condition. Writer-director Taika Waititi told Indiewire:
"This is a debate that is still ongoing at Marvel. We're still trying to figure out when the plot of the movie will unfold after Endgame."
This is where PETA, the famous animal rights association, comes in to discuss the evolution of the character:
"Dear Taika, (…) We suggest you follow Chris Hemsworth's example and explore what would happen if Thor went vegan. According to his personal trainer, Hemsworth went vegan when he starred in the first Thor and the first Avengers. Developing his taste for vegan beans and burgers… "
PETA obviously did not fail to recall the ecological issues of veganism:
"If Thor really wants to protect the Earth, going vegan would make a lot of sense… Stopping eating animals could prevent the waste of nearly 4,000 litres of water. This would significantly reduce CO2 emissions, prevent 2 square meters of deforestation every day and save the lives of 200 animals in one year!"
Thor vegan: a good idea?
In itself, the idea of introducing vegan characters is not without interest. As meat consumption is at the heart of current ecological issues, it would be interesting to raise public awareness of this cause. However, the character of Thor may not be the most suitable character to embody veganism… A bit like Chewbacca in Star Wars 8 with the Porgs. In itself, the idea is cool, but the application is likely to be quite wobbly. Unless Taika Waititi manages to get it across in a funny and relevant way to fit it perfectly into the film. Anyway, Taika Waititi has not yet responded to PETA. It remains to be seen whether he will follow up on their request or focus on other aspects of the story than the physique of the Norse God. How about you? Are you up for a vegan Thor?
