Now that winter has finally arrived, the two collaborators will now travel to a galaxy far, far away…
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will end very soon, with the eighth season of Game of Thrones, their adventure in the universe of Westeros. But if you thought you wouldn't hear from them anymore, you've put your finger in your eye up to your elbow! It was announced on Tuesday, February 6 that the two creators of the series are preparing to write and produce a new series of films for the Star Wars franchise! These films will not be linked to the original saga, revolving around Skywalker and other now cult characters, nor to the upcoming trilogy developed by Rian Johnson and announced a few months ago.
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss that they "are among the best storytellers currently in the business" and that, for her, "their way of controlling the complexity of the characters, the depth of their stories as well as the richness of their mythology will break the codes and push the Star Wars franchise in absolutely exciting directions".
In their statement, Benioff and Weiss also expressed their look forward to working with Lucasfilm:
"In the summer of 1977, we traveled to a galaxy far, far away and we've been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by this opportunity, a little terrified of this responsibility and most importantly excited to begin as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is over."
No dates or detailed information have been disclosed about these new film projects, but we expect to hear about them again very soon! In the meantime, rediscover below the trailer of Solo – A Star Wars Story, the spin-off centered on the character of Han Solo and scheduled for May 2018.
