From 1918 to 2018: just one century separates us from the Great War. Survivors are increasingly rare. The testimonies that reach us from this dark period are photos, words, and especially stories.
Portraits of war more human than each other
Thus, on the stage of the sawmill, for his first festival in Avignon, Corentin CUVELIER, embodies several poilus, whose lives were stolen by this war. Survivors, sometimes yes… But to what extent? Very fair, the actor leads us, through several stories, into this war that we do not know and that we have the happiness (often unconscious) not to know.
These stories are true, these stories are part of the big story.
And they plunge us into these trenches, these mudslides, these fights of young men, who aspired only to find their fiancée, their family. Thus, these peasants, these traders, were thrown into the war overnight, flower with gun.
Corentin CUVELIER is very invested, he gives us by a sincere game a beautiful performance. The staging is sober, at the service of the text.
It is for these reasons that we invite you to discover this play at the Théâtre de la scierie. To see throughout the Avignon Festival 2018, at 12:00.
Genesis of the project:
The author of the play, Alain GUYARD, is based on historical testimonies, on chronicles of the front, so many situations that have all been experienced by men. Thus, it contributes to the celebration of the Centenary: from La Madelon to the bell to the Dead, from carelessness to despair, the words of the soldiers of 14-18 become reality. Corentin CUVELIER embodies all the Poilus; These young men left with the flower with the rifle in the warmth of the summer of 1914. He tells their story, the front, the trenches. He is the voice of the anonymous crushed by the war machine.
What's more: This show is labeled by the mission of the centenary of the First World War.
