The Cannes Film Festival, one of the world's most important film festivals traditionally held in May, has been postponed. It will therefore take place in July. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival have announced its postponement to early July. In a press release, the festival team gives more details:

"As announced last autumn, the Cannes International Film Festival gave itself the opportunity to change its dates according to the evolution of the global health situation. Thus, initially scheduled from May 11 to 22, 2021, the Festival will take place from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 17 July 2021.

It is recalled that the great annual meeting of the 7th art had already not been able to be held in May 2020 because of the pandemic. Instead, the organizers had resigned themselves to publishing a list of 56 feature films that were part of the "2020 official selection". It should be noted that a symbolic edition was even held in the autumn with the screening of four films from this selection.

Much more than a festival, Cannes is an essential showcase for French and foreign films and a platform for awards. This year, the first major festival on the calendar, the Berlinale, has already given up on a classic edition. Indeed, it is postponed to March and the competition will be held online due to the pandemic. Screenings open to the public will be held in June. We can only hope that the Cannes Film Festival will not suffer the same fate as that of the Berlinale and that we will be able to see our actors walk one of the most famous red carpets.
