The entry of Norbert Dragonneau and the other characters into the world of Harry Potter in Fantastic Beasts made a lot of waves in November. But above all, the film awakened what Harry Potter fans have become excellent at: theories.

For your (and our) greatest pleasure, we have gathered the theories about Fantastic Beasts that hover the most over this little wonder that is the Internet!

Warning, this article is filled with spoilers! Don't read it if you haven't seen Fantastic Beasts !

We can now talk more freely about the film and the elements we have been able to spot. While we've already realized that many references to Harry Potter are hidden (or not) in Fantastic Beasts, we knew we could count on the fans to dig deeper. And it was not lacking because dozens of theories flourished on the forums and some turned out to be very interesting!

Aracog: a gift from Norbert?

Aragog

But yes, you know, Aracog ! This huge spider adopted by Hagrid that we discover in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and that sends his whole family to devour Harry and Ron! Does it come back to you? Good. Well, it is possible that it was our dear Norbert Dragonneau (Newt Scamander in the original version) who brought it back from a short trip and offered it to Hagrid. Remember these words that the creature utters when it introduces itself to the young wizards: "I come from a distant land. A traveler gave me to Hagrid when I was still just an egg. " It's hard to see just a coincidence here.

Norbert is a friend of fantastic creatures and he even deals with them in the long term: in his magical suitcase, he keeps these creatures that he recovers around the world. Why couldn't he have acquired an Acromentule egg during a trip? Especially since, from a chronological point of view, this theory is perfectly credible! Fantastic Beasts is set in the 1920s and Norbert returns to England at the end of the film. Hagrid will not be a student at Hogwarts until the 1940s, which leaves a few years for our favorite magizoologist to find an Acromentule egg and meet another friend of magical creatures, in this case Hagrid.

At this time of his life (1940s), Norbert was a writer and worked in the Ministry of Magic, so he may badly need someone to rid him of a creature that could cause him problems. It is not known whether this theory will be confirmed in the films or not, but if it turns out to be true, it is certain that J.K. Rowling had thought the stories of her characters with much more intention than one might have thought!

Voldemort's father reportedly appeared in the film but under a different name.

And this name is that of Credence Barebone , played by Ezra Miller in the film. You don't want to believe it, don't worry, neither do we! The very idea of refocusing the plot on Voldemort and his past does not enchant us, but this theory is still relatively interesting to explain.

According to some theorists of the wizarding world, Creed would be none other than a young Tom Jedusor Sr who would have left England leaving behind a pregnant Merope Gaunt (Voldemort's mother). Readers of the Harry Potter books know this, but a reminder is always welcome: Merope seduced Tom Jedusor Sr. with a love potion, but when he discovered that his beloved was actually a witch, he left her and the baby she was carrying. Tom Jedusor Jr aka Voldemort. Thus, according to theorists, Tom Jedusor Sr. went to the United States with his mother Mary Jedusor and they changed their name to Croyance Bellebosse and Mary-Lou Bellebosse before starting a witch hunt in New York. All these events could explain why the young boy constantly looks traumatized. If we also pay attention to the birth dates of Creed and Tom Jedusor Sr., this theory could work (yes, we went so far as to compare their birthdays).

But then, why does this theory not hold water? Simply because Tom Jedusor Sr. was a Muggle and Creed is, obviously, far from being one. If you've seen the movie, you know that Creed is actually an Obscurial, a wizard who has suppressed his powers to the point of turning them into Obscurus, a destructive evil form. It is still a hell of an inconsistency, not negligible. We do not exclude the possibility that the physical resemblance between Creed and Tom Jedusor (black hair, pale complexion) is a possible sign of very, very distant kinship, but even that we do not really believe.

Grindelwald could be a seer.

We were finally able to discover his true face at the end of the film, which led to many questions in the boiling brains of fans. This one is relatively interesting: the dark mage Gellert Grindelwald would have abilities to see the future. A seer in the wizarding world, what exactly is it? This is a sorcerer or witch who has the ability to establish prophecies from visions communicated to him through his Third Eye.

Could Grindelwald be? Indeed, when he is still hiding under the identity of Percival Graves, he reveals to Creed that he had visions that guided him to Creed himself, thinking that it was up to him to guide him to the child he was looking for (without knowing that it was indeed Creed). In our opinion, either Grindelwald is indeed a hardcore seer, or he may simply be a practitioner of the art of Divination capable of provoking visions of the future to know in which direction to go.

One of the characters would be the grandfather of Severus Snape.

And definitely, fans are going after him because it is once again Creed that is at the center of a new incredible theory! A little reminder about the family of our dear potion master: calling himself "Half-Blood Prince", Severus Snape is the son of Tobias Snape, a Muggle, and Eileen Prince, a Pureblood witch. Her mother was born in the 30s and Fantastic Beasts is set in 1926, which could make the idea that Creed is Eileen's father credible.

It is already known that there is little information about the Prince family, but it may come from the fact that Creed has been adopted: his real name may be Prince. Or, any other scenario, he could simply decide to choose this name to hide once he arrives in Europe (let us agree, Creed does not really die at the end of the film since he was entitled to an additional cut scene). Indeed, it would surprise us if he really wanted to keep the name of his adoptive mother, the brutal Mary-Lou Bellebosse. The physical similarities between Creed and Severus Snape lead many fans to totally believe in this theory, even if it remains particularly far-fetched.

We may know more about Ariana Dumbledore.

Ariana Dumbledore

In the Harry Potter saga, little is learned about the Dumbledore's younger sister. And some elements lead us to believe that we could indeed discover a little more about her thanks to Fantastic Beasts. Again, the following theory establishes a connection between the young witch and Creed : according to some attentive readers, Ariana is also an Obscurial.

So here we go for a biographical topo to better understand this theory. Ariana, younger sister of Albus and Abelforth, was a young witch who, after being assaulted by Muggles (non-wizards), found herself unable to master her magical powers and was therefore isolated from the outside world by her family. Her father, having taken revenge on the three Muggles, was sent to Azkaban, which contributed to his daughter's misfortune. Locked in isolation, Ariana began to refuse to use and even hear about magic, to the point that it contained within her her powers, which were getting more and more out of control. One day, seized by a great tantrum where her magic came out violently, the girl accidentally kills her mother. Ariana was then killed at the age of 14 during a battle between her two brothers and Gellert Grindelwald. He remained undefined who cast the spell that was fatal to him but Abelforth always blamed Albus. Are you starting to see similarities? To complete this, Internet users have noticed an excerpt from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where Abelforth talks about his little sister following his assault by the three Muggles:

"What they did to her destroyed her. It was never the same again. She didn't want to hear about magic anymore but she couldn't get rid of it. Then, the magic, locked inside, drove her crazy, it exploded out of her when she could not control it, and sometimes she was strange, dangerous even. But most of the time, she was gentle, fearful, harmless. "

Sound familiar to you too? Good. Well, some theorists of the magical world suppose that Grindelwald, at the time friends with the Dumbledore family, would have discovered the existence of the Obscurials at the death of Ariana and that it would even be for this reason that he is interested almost thirty years later in this magical phenomenon with Creed. Some also imagine that in truth Ariana would have died because of her own magical powers: by wanting to protect her brothers from Grindelwald, she would have let out her powers, which would have cost her her life. We already know that we can find a younger Dumbledore in the rest of the saga, maybe we can also hope to discover his little sister!

Here are the five most popular theories right now about Fantastic Beasts. Of course, many other hypotheses circulate from all sides to find logical links with Harry Potter but these are the ones that caught our attention. To see if some will be refuted or confirmed in the rest of the saga!
