After 17 years of problems and disappointments, Terry Gilliam has finally finished The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, the adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes' work, which is so close to his heart.

A journey full of pitfalls for Terry Gilliam

After many unsuccessful attempts told in many articles, and in the excellent documentary Lost in la Mancha, highlighted by our editorial team a few months ago, Terry Gilliam has finally completed his adaptation of Don Quixote. The former Monthy Python revealed the good news on Facebook:

"Sorry for the long silence. I was busy loading the truck and now I'm going home. After 17 years, we finished filming The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Thank you very much to the whole team and to those who believed in it. QUIXOTE LIVE!"

Finally, after all these problems, the interpreter of Kylo Ren in Star Wars – The Force Awakens will give the answer to Jonathan Pryce, a faithful of the cinema of Gilliam seen in Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Münchausen and The Brothers Grimm. The two actors will be surrounded by Olga Kurylenko and Stellan Skarsgård. However, filming was not without pitfalls since a funding problem delayed the start of construction of the film. Then Gilliam and his legendary poisse had to face last May a court decision declaring the filming illegal. Producer Paulo Branco of Alfama Films, in conflict with the filmmaker, said he owned the rights to the film. The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is now in post-production. All that remains is to cross your fingers to see the result on the big screen one day.
