Takeshi Kitano: Three restored versions will be released in cinemas!

In August, three masterpieces by Japanese director Takeshi Kitano will be released in a restored version. Let's take a look back at these films!

Hana-bi, Kids Return and L'été de Kikujiro will be in the spotlight this summer as they will reappear on French screens to the delight of moviegoers. JustFocus offers you a short recap of the three works.

  • Hana-bi (1997), with Takeshi Kitano and Tetsu Watanabe

Synopsis: Nishi is a police officer whose wife has terminal cancer. Following a shooting, one of his colleagues is quadriplegic while another is killed. Nishi decides to resign and embarks on the preparation of a robbery in order to find the money necessary to repay his large debts. He also hopes to find meaning in his life…

  • Kids Return (1996), with Masanobu Ando

The synopsis : Instead of attending their high school, Masaru and Shinji, two teenagers, prefer to hang out in bars, steal and gland. When a boxer beats Masuro, he decides to go into this discipline. Shinji chooses to imitate him, but he will be endowed with much better qualities than his companion. Masuro, disappointed, decides to get closer to the local mafia…

    • Summer of Kikujiro (1999), with Takeshi Kitano, Yusuke Sekiguchi
The synopsis : Masao, a young boy, is somewhat bored during his school holidays. His friends deserted the city. He stayed in Tokyo with his grandmother, with whom he lives. She works a lot and has little time to devote to him during the day. Through one of his friends, Masao meets Kikujiro, a younger yakusa. Together, they go in search of Masao's mother, whom the latter does not know. Thus begins a summer like no other for the young boy…
