Summary

The film takes place during three important moments of his career: the launch of Macintosh 128K in 1984, that of NeXT Computer in 1988 and finally its Holy Grail: the iMac, ten years later. At each of these conferences, chaos reigns supreme behind the scenes. From arguments with his former girlfriend to numerous settling of scores with his associates, this feature film portrays the pioneer of the digital revolution over the years.

But who is Steve Jobs really?

Known for his advances in microcomputing (laptop technology), Steve Jobs is above all an American entrepreneur and inventor. In 1975, he designed his first microcomputer, Apple I. The famous apple brand will be founded the following year. Its second model, Apple II, will then be a real success and becomes the first personal computer in the world to be marketed. The Apple Lisa and the Macintosh will then follow, but will both be big failures. In 1985, Jobs found himself ousted from the company following numerous disagreements with his employees. He then decided to create his own company: NeXT Computer. Intended for the education sector, these computers will make very few sales due to a fairly high cost. In 1997, as NeXT faltered, Apple bought the company. This allows the famous inventor to become the boss again and release, a year later, the famous iMac. A model that will completely relaunch the brand and pave the way for many global successes: the iPod (2001), the iPhone (2007) and the iPad (2010). Unfortunately, a year later, affected by health problems, Steve Jobs announced his resignation as CEO of Apple. He nevertheless remained Chairman of the Board of Directors until his death on October 5, 2011. Steve Jobs (Apple), the movie available on Amazon Prime Video

Why this biopic about Steve Jobs?

When he learns of his illness, the businessman decides to call on Walter Isaacson to write his memoirs. Through hundreds of interviews with his family, rivals and colleagues, the author traces the exceptional career of this genius. Many themes are discussed, both professional and intimate: his adoption, his infuriating personality, as well as his successes and failures. This biographical book, published 19 days after the death of Steve Jobs, quickly became number 1 in sales. Sony Pictures immediately acquired the rights, and hired Aaron Sorkin, author of the famous film The Social Network, to write the script. However, after numerous production stoppages and casting changes, filming will not begin until 2015. It is finally Universal Studio that takes over the project with Danny Boyle (Little murders between friends, Slumdog Millionaire) as director. The feature film will be released at the end of the year, but will not be successful at the box office. Steve Jobs (Apple), the movie available on Amazon Prime Video

A welcome not so well reserved …

With worldwide receipts equivalent to the production budget, the film spent only nine weeks on screens. A failure explained by a redundant scenario. Composed of three acts taking up three commercial launches by Steve Jobs, history repeats itself. The altercations between the boss and his collaborators, or with his ex-girlfriend and his daughter, are rehashed in each era. However, the depth of the dialogue and the beauty of the shots save this film. It is an original form of storytelling, but it highlights the personality of this genius. It is thanks to this writing that the production will win the Golden Globe for best screenplay. Kate Winslet will also be critically acclaimed with several nominations and awards for Best Supporting Actress. The American magazine Variety hailed the film as a "wildly creative fantasy" while in France, L'Obs called it "better than a biopic" that draws a "complex and tweezer portrait of the Apple mogul". However, not all media share the same opinion. The Guardian wrote: "Although the film constantly informs you of the incredible importance of everything that is happening, it is disappointing to find that it is difficult to really take an interest in what is happening." Shared opinions that leave you no choice but to make your own. Steve Jobs, available on Amazon Prime Video since February 1.
