This is news that should delight fans from all walks of life: Star Wars 9 will see the return of Lando Calrissian and his original actor Billy Dee Williams!
Several rumors have been circulating for a while, but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it: the famous sidekick of the smuggler Han Solo will be back in the next adventures of Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron. If we do not yet know the role that it will have to play in this story, the return of the original actor can only delight fans of the franchise. Already a very popular character, Lando Calrissian saw his popularity increase following Solo – A Star Wars Story, thanks to the flawless interpretation of Donald Glover. It should be noted that if Billy Dee Williams has not been seen in a Star Wars movie since 1983 (with Return of the Jedi), it has always remained very close to the franchise. This is how you could hear his voice in the Star Wars – Rebels series or in the video games Star Wars – Battlefront and Lego – Star Wars.
Should we expect a last run from him in the company of the rebellion? Where will he do as usual by getting involved in the conflict from afar? Bets are off! With Billy Dee Williams currently 81 years old, it is to be expected that he will heroically disappear in this episode, just like his friends Han and Luke. Old theories could also resurface, especially regarding Finn's kinship. Lando had already been mentioned as the eventual father of our favorite renegade stormtrooper. His return could well be there to confirm this hypothesis.
But beyond this umpteenth theory, a more important question arises: will Lando take over the controls of his beloved Millennium Falcon? It's a safe bet that nothing will please him more. Anyway, this return is mouth-watering and we are already looking forward to learning more. Now that this rumor has been confirmed, can we expect the rumors about Obi-Wan to be confirmed as well? Rumors of corridors circulate and some report a return of the Jedi Master as a specter in episode 9. Admittedly, this was also the case for episode 8, but the spin-off on Obi-Wan is still in the pipes, it would be the right time to make it appear.
We just have to wait to learn more about Lando's return. Star Wars 9 will again be directed by J.J Abrams, who will be assisted by director Victoria Mahoney. The film is not expected to arrive until Christmas 2019, we have time to see various theories about what could be this last opus of the Trilogy. In the meantime, discover our hypothesis on Darth Maul and the possible spin-off in preparation on this character.
