After the magnificent Jackie (2016), Pablo Larrain tackles a new emblematic figure loved by all: Lady Diana. We find in this new biopic an unrecognizable Kristen Stewart in this difficult role and many times taken from Lady Di. This intense and more psychological biopic than its predecessors on the Princess of Wales is much talked about. Spencer Focus: If you're looking for a biopic about Diana Spencer's exciting yet tragic life, go your way. Spencer took his place in December 1991, where the royal family was preparing to spend traditional holidays together. Despite the deceptions of Prince Charles known to all, Diana must play her role within the royal family. The film therefore revolves around a single period, short but fateful for royalty.  Spencer: Behind the Curtains

Everything all set up

The film is nonetheless fascinating , focusing on the martyr figure that Diana was in a family that was not hers. We simply understand that this family is not hers, in the face of all her traditions rooted in the past, her incessant need to flee to find the Christmases she had loved so much or to protect her sons from this need to split up in order to please others. Faced with this family living in a time when Diana no longer recognizes herself, each of her movements, her lyrics feed this oppressive feeling, personified by the music of Johnny Greenwood. This music is the one that guides us throughout the film to feel the suffocation that the Princess lived every day, locked in traditions that were not hers.  Spencer: Behind the Curtains

Magnet of Madness

Spencer is so oppressive that it could even make us think of a horror movie, both by its music that drowns us under the feelings of Diana or the staging of this castle and its cold corridors that almost make us think of those of The Shining. Faced with the terrifying vastness of these places, he even comes to cause hallucinations to Lady Di, guided by ghostly apparitions of Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII of England. These apparitions refer directly to Spencer's ancestors, drawing parallels between the two women linked by the same fate of accusation of infidelity. This feeling of betrayal on Charles' part also comes in the form of a pearl necklace, a necklace offered by him to his lover and then to his wife. These pearls are known to be the symbol of purity and serenity, two emotions opposite to those that Diana feels, strangled by this necklace or by a family who looks at her without understanding her.  Spencer: Behind the Curtains

A Spencer curse

Spencer is the tragic fable of a woman who finds herself trapped in a life that is not like her. Despite the fact that the film focuses on such a short period of this woman's life, Pablo Larrain manages to transcribe through the colors or the music, the feelings and thoughts of Diana, victim of an insensitive family. It is Spencer's name that will resonate the most, the one with which she needs to be no one but herself. https://youtu.be/WllZh9aekDg Spencer, available today on Amazon Prime.
