Ivan Reitman, director of the first two installments of Ghostbusters and producer of the reboot, dwells on the continuation of the franchise with new ideas.
A few days ago, Dan Aykroyd , actor in the first saga, criticized the reboot of S.O.S. Ghosts by Paul Feig released in theaters last year. Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two opus, released respectively in 1984 and 1989, comes out of his silence and explains the future of the saga at the microphone of Super News Live:
"We think a lot about the management of S. rights.O.S. Ghosts. The idea of the franchise is that it can happen anywhere other than New York, it can happen anywhere in the world. I think it would be really cool to see Korean or Chinese ghosts. All these great traditions in the world have tales and things that scare people. Having local teams of ghost hunters tied to New York HQ would be fun."
Ivan Reitman does not stop there and is eager to connect the two sagas. The actors of the first film, namely Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson make their appearance in the 2016 version but did not really seem to be in their roles at the time. Their appearance was more in a spirit of wink than for a real connection. Ivan Reitman plans to reunite the two casts in a future installment, which implies that the franchise is not dead.
"I think one of the things that fans really wanted, just like me, was a movie that connects the two worlds. It was a bit strange that the reboot didn't do it, it got a lot of talk. I would really like to connect these two worlds."
Even if this project promises to be interesting, it should be remembered that the reboot of S.O.S. Ghosts took a long time to arrive, due to a difficult production. It would therefore not be surprising to see Ivan Reitman's project fall through or take a long time to arrive. Business to follow…
