The most famous smuggler in the galaxy will indeed be presented in preview on the Croisette. This is what American sites such as Deadline or Collider suggested. The opportunity to bring a lot of brilliance to this second spin-off of the Star Wars saga, while bringing back a cohort of fans eager to discover the film.
The production of Solo – A Star Wars Story has been tumultuous to say the least. Departure of the directors initially chosen, emergency arrival of Ron Howard, rumors as to a deplorable quality of the film … In short, nothing very encouraging for this spin-off to land on May 23. And its first public release will be the most prestigious, since rumors have been confirmed that it will be screened on the occasion of the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Knowing the company with big ears and Lucasfilm, it would not be surprising if they arranged for the film to be presented there in order to bring a more positive spotlight than in recent months.
The official selection of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival has not yet been revealed and will only arrive on April 12 (only a few days left to wait). The Festival will last from May 8 to 19. With Solo – A Star Wars Story premiering there, the event will get a lot of publicity, not to mention the most impatient fans who may land at the speed of light.
It remains to be seen if Solo – A Star Wars Story will finally manage to convince, despite all its production problems (after all, Rogue One – A Star Wars Story had also been punctuated by production problems… This did not prevent the film from being highly appreciated and surpassing one billion dollars at the global box office).
It should be noted that this will not be the first Star Wars film to be presented at Cannes, since Star Wars 3 – Revenge of the Sith was presented on site at the time.
