We still know very little about how Star Wars 9 will turn out, but rumors persist about an unlikely return: that of Supreme Leader Snoke.
This was one of the most controversial elements of Star Wars 8 when it was released. The death of the big bad Snoke has indeed left more than one spectator stunned and continues today to cause heated debates among fans of the license. It must be said that with this episode, Rian Johnson decided to go completely against the story started by J.J. Abrams. Which is not a bad thing, since the latter had made the beginning of this new Trilogy an awkward decal of the original Trilogy. But here's the thing: episode 9 is deprived of its Supreme Leader, leaving room for the controversial Kylo Ren. Will that prevent Abrams from bringing him back for this episode? Not necessarily. It is in any case that suggested Andy Serkis, interpreter of Snoke in person:
I emailed J.J. Abrams and I said, "Let me know how things are progressing and how exciting it will be." Obviously, I really want to see how everything will fall into place. Who knows? Snoke may well come back. I'm not saying anything, I'm just proposing. I only have fun spreading the rumor, but absolutely anything can happen…
Whether this rumor is true or not, Serkis cannot be stripped of his sense of mystery. And this one is probably right to play with the spectators as he is doing right now.
However, perhaps it would be a mistake to bring Snoke back in the next episode. Indeed, the story of this new Trilogy seems to pedal in sauerkraut and move forward with difficulty. But there is only one episode left to conclude everything, which will not be an easy task for director J.J. Abrams. The most judicious solution would certainly be to reveal a little more about Snoke's past and his relationship with Kylo Ren, without necessarily bringing him back (a few flashbacks would be more than enough to complete this story). In addition, Kylo Ren will certainly be a more interesting antagonist to develop in this last installment of the saga, hoping that his story arc concludes in a grandiose way.
Andy Serkis casts serious doubt with his statements, but nothing can allow us for the moment to say that this return is in the pipes. In the meantime, the cult actor is currently in the middle of a promotional tour for his film Mowgli, released with great fanfare on Netflix this Friday, December 7.
