Shane Black is directing the next installment in the Predator saga. He spoke at the microphone of Collider about a potential shooting date and the tone that the film will take.

Shane Black, the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 has been entrusted with the realization of the fourth installment of the Predator saga. The filmmaker co-wrote the script and should start shooting next February:

We are planning a shoot for mid-February 2017. I'm heading to Vancouver in a week or two to seriously start pre-production.

Shane Black then describes his perception of the tone of the 1987 film Predator , directed by John McTiernan, in which he starred as an actor alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger:

"I find that the Predator movies have slowly deviated from the usual sci-fi movie, because they have a 'thriller' aspect. I think [the new film] should be scary, fun and wonderful and perceive things that humans very rarely get to see… I'm not talking about the viewer but about the characters in the film. And I'm not saying that the movie will have nothing in common with what you've already seen (laughs)!

Shane Black is looking to make a darker, more violent and more believable film than the recent Predators. He wants to stage identifiable and resistant characters without creating machines. This next Predator will be rated R in the United States as the very first film in the franchise.

"The success of Deadpool played a role, but I also preached for my parish — and [Fox] agreed: Predator fans probably aren't looking for a PG-13 version. It would be disappointing to have a version adapted to the family audience, when we will be able to play in the same court as what the first film, rated R, had allowed"

The release of the feature film is scheduled for March 7, 2018 in our theaters while the casting is still mysterious.
