Only three months after its theatrical release, Black Panther continues to be talked about! Present at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, the director of the film, Ryan Coogler, shared his desire to make a female spin-off about the heroines surrounding T'Challa.

Ryan Coogler would like a female spin-off of Black Panther

This Thursday afternoon, Ryan Coogler gave a conference of nearly two hours during his passage on the Croisette. With more than a billion receipts worldwide, Black Panther has made its place alongside the great Marvel hits. It is all the more necessary as it is the first blockbuster to have benefited from such a large budget ($ 200 million) to display an almost exclusively black cast. The director also wanted to recall the importance of breaking the conventions of the system. When asked if women are as important as men in his film Ryan Coogler does not hesitate to say that they may even be more important.

"I think it's debatable that Black Panther women are more important than men. There's a whole part of the film where T'Challa is offside, so we follow these female characters. When I saw the film, it was one of my favorite moments when I didn't expect it. This part of the film makes you feel like you're watching something new, it's very pleasant. "

Indeed, in this Marvel feature film, the hero T'Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, is supported throughout by a close guard made up of women. These warriors of Wakanda, the Dora Milaje, are played by Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Angela Basset and Lupita Nyong'o. The director imagines very well these actresses carrying their own film. Would he like to direct a female spin-off with the heroines of Black Panther? His answer is not long in coming:

"It would be amazing if the opportunity presented itself."

He mentions the fact that the comics gave their own stories to the Dora Milaje, so why not the movies. But for now, Marvel Studios has not yet said anything about this possible spin-off. As strong as it is, Ryan Coogler's wish has not yet found its place in the busy schedule of the production company. With the future Ant-man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, who knows when the heroines of Wakanda will take center stage.
