American actress Scarlett Johansson will soon play a dubious woman in Rub and Tug, Rupert Sanders' new drama based on a true story.
Filming scheduled for February 2019
After collaborating on the science fiction film Ghost in the Shell in 2017, Scarlett Johansson and English director Rupert Sanders are teaming up again, this time on a dramatic work.
This project, estimated at $30 million, is inspired by the true story of a Brentwood woman, otherwise known as Dante "Tex" Gill, who was a figure in the underworld of Pittsburgh in the late 70s and early 80s. Gill ran a number of massage parlors protected by the city's mafia, which were places also used for prostitution. With short hair and a tie, this woman had distinguished herself for posing as a man and for her long-term relationship with Cynthia Bruno.Gill was eventually convicted of tax evasion in 1984 and spent seven years in prison, before dying in 2003.
This feature film is a co-production between Silver Pictures , Maguire's Material Pictures and Johansson's These Pictures. At the time, Jennifer Lawrence was approached for the role while David O. Russell (American Bluff) was chosen to direct the film. Hollywood production group New Regency has finally taken up the torch, offering a complex new role to Scarlett Johansson and directing to Rupert Sanders.
Before learning more about this new project that will be captured next winter, Scarlett Johansson will soon be on the big screens of theaters for Jojo Rabbit, a satirical film about the Second World War directed by Taika Waititi.
For now, the actress is still starring in the sensational film Avengers: Infinity War, released in theaters this year.
