Rogue One: The movie could have been called something else…

According to the two writers of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, two other titles for the film were considered. But also important changes concerning the main characters Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso. In December 2016, the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released, completing the star-studded saga. And the least we can say is that the film continues to be talked about. First, we learned that the film had been reshot to change the ending. Then we knew that a rolling credits was initially planned. But it's not over yet! Obviously, Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, have kept some crispy nuggets up their sleeves. Appearing on IGN Watch From Home Theater, the duo revealed that they had considered other titles for the film at some point (via Comicbook):

"Rogue One was ultimately a good choice, but one of them was Dark Times and Shadow of The Death Star."

Gary Whitta continues:

"One thing came to mind because I rewatched all the previous films (and it remains true even though the new trilogy is now over). It is that the titles of the films of the Star Wars saga are never more than three or four words. So it occurred to me that one of the ways to differentiate this film from the rest was to have a title that was only one or two words. So like Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Rogue One, let's make a title that's shorter, even if it's something that doesn't conform to the unwritten rules of the saga movies."

Very different main characters

Question change, here is another and size! It concerns the two main characters. Namely Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor, played respectively by Felicity Jones and Diego Luna. Indeed, Gary Whitta reveals that at some point in the writing process:

"Jyn was already a rebel soldier. We played with various other possibilities… That she was a deserter, that she was a scavenger/looter like Rey, but obviously you can't go away with that once you learn what's brewing about the Star Wars universe."

This is an essential revelation for fans of the Star Wars saga! Chris Weitz, too, has not remained stingy regarding the revelations about the main characters. Indeed, after Jyn Erso, the screenwriter gives us information about Cassian Andor:

"He had to be compromised, very compromised. In Gary's script and mine, it was actually a double agent. In a very, very early version of the script, he was a rebel soldier secretly working for Krennic (the villain of the film). Changing his mind, he eventually finds himself on the side of the rebels, but only after being mistaken for being mistaken as a spy. At some point, in the third act, he had to regain Jyn's trust."

So, what do you think of these changes? Do you prefer the initial or final version? Anyway the film was a real box office hit, exceeding a billion dollars in revenue and thus creating the surprise ! We let you (re)discover the trailer of the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story by Gareth Edwards with Felicity Jones and Diego Luna.
