Quite expected after the sympathetic Thor : Ragnarok, transformation of the character of Thor into adventurer of colorful and comic movies, Love and Thunder had many promises including those of having one of the best villains of the MCU and the proposal of an epic adventure. However, despite certain qualities nothing works in this fourth adventure of the Viking of space. Thor is back! On vacation, while giving a hand from time to time to the Guardians of the Galaxy. His peace is threatened by the appearance of Gorr, the butcher of the gods, wishing to exterminate all the gods. The Viking goes on the hunt to stop this carnage… 
First evidence after seeing Love and Thunder : Taika Waititi is having fun. Giant goats (best characters in the film), sets and rather pleasant staging ideas (including a confrontation at times impressive in a setting where any color is removed), rather scary villain … This new Asgardian adventure has assets but all this is in vain.

Trying to defuse any dramatic element with poorly mastered and heavy humor, the stakes of the story (which could have been an exciting conflict between men and divinities) turn out to be uninteresting as possible. No dramatic impact, no emotion. Only jokes and giant goats count (we love giant goats but still). Thor is ridiculous, Jane Foster has everything from the false good idea, Gorr is badly written except for a promising introductory scene. Worse, Christian Bale is so terrifying of cabotinage that he becomes a pale imitation of Heath Leadger's Joker. The effort is commendable, but if it is a way to pay tribute to his late colleague, we will have seen better. 
Love and Thunder turns out to be a pinnacle of I don't care. Yet capable of the best (Jojo Rabbit), Taika Waititi shows us that he does not care about his story and that he simply wants to play with $ 200 million. The result is there: a forgettable film, showing a terrifying cynicism and a sickening stupidity. The dream factory disappoints more and more and is proving less and less able to make proper entertainment. Only hardcore Marvel fans will be able to defend this turnip.
