This Friday, July 10, Netflix released its new production: The Old Guard. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, this comic book adaptation tells the story of a group of immortals that spans the ages. Directed by Charlize Theron, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Matthias Schoenaerts, the film is a total failure. A superheroic adaptation behind its time and quite boring. Originally, The Old Guard is a 5-issue comic book series launched in 2017. Created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, these comics met with some success. So much so that Netflix decided to embark on a film adaptation of the work. Something that the platform perhaps should not have done…

A terribly boring adaptation

Let us not beat around the bush. The Old Guard is an adaptation of comics behind its time. A terribly boring film, in which the plot flounders, reusing the clichés of the genre. In a world dominated by comic book adaptations, some of which are extremely creative, it's hard to offer such a classic, lazy movie. The public will become more and more demanding with this type of productions as they multiply on the screens. And today, it takes a little more than just using the base material to convince. Review "The Old Guard" by Gina Prince-Bythewood: an adaptation of a deadly boredom Because The Old Guard is overall annoying (pardon the expression). The plot does not advance, seems out of the early 2000s and does not highlight its characters. It's bland, without any personality and just accumulates situations to get from point A to point B. And that it's soft… There is no intensity, no soul, it is extremely formatted. The Old Guard is a film seen 1000 times which, in addition, does not place itself at the top of the basket. The dialogues are of a hallucinating emptiness, being only scripted elements serving the understanding of a story stitched with white thread. The film is sometimes reminiscent of the recent Bloodshot in its treatment of superheroic figures and action. It is empty of meaning, creativity and logic. Even the action scenes don't tell anything and don't offer much visually remarkable. The tones are bland, digital is misused, and photography seems rushed, leaving post-production to do most of the work. Thus, The Old Guard fails to offer anything spectacular. Whether in its plot or in its action scenes too rare and too ugly.

Bland and uninteresting scenario

And no need to dwell on the content of the story as it is insignificant. The elements addressed in this story are dull, tasteless and do not tell much. Accompanied by flashbacks a little embarrassing, the story does not tell anything overall. A lot of empty blah blah to explain the origin of this race of immortals, supported by elements from the past that we would have done without. Review "The Old Guard" by Gina Prince-Bythewood: an adaptation of a deadly boredom The dialogues do not revive the interest of the viewer who gradually falls into a protective lethargy. The screenplay is only considered as a franchise material, without much interest as an independent work. Even comedians are not at their best. Charlize Theron and Matthias Schoenaerts are trying as best they can to give some life to all this. In short, you will understand, go your way and quickly! The Old Guard is therefore a failed comic book adaptation, with a boring plot, telephoned and uninteresting. It's soft, without intensity, without soul, without personality and it's extremely formatted. As for the soundtrack, it simply makes the ears bleed. Go your way!  https://youtu.be/y08ELGzKPII
