Teddy : a werewolf movie like no other
As you can see, Teddy is a werewolf movie like no other. Led by an Anthony Bajon capable of metamorphosing (literally) in each role, the actor confirms his talent and amazes us in the skin of this young paumé. Because, yes, Teddy (the character) is not very lovable. He is a slightly rogue, provocative young man, metalhead at heart, who is the victim of the contempt of the inhabitants of his village. In the eyes of the villagers, Teddy is the plouc of service, a moron finishes. 
In reality, the Boukherma brothers give us a character who is quite sensitive, having a good background, although stuffed to the brim with defects. What they have already exploited with the very borderline Willy 1er (co-directed with Marielle Gautier and Hugo P Thomas), which tells the story of a disabled and illiterate man wishing to acquire his independence. Teddy is therefore a young man who does not have much future, without education, chaining odd jobs in interim, facing a lustful boss (Noémie Lvosky). The universe of this Teddy is reminiscent of Bruno Dumont's work on the P'tit Quinquin series: atypical mouths, timeless characters, pronounced accents, grand-guignolesque dialogues… The Boukherma respect the rule of the fantastic narrative: the strange that arises from the banality. 
What about the visual aspect?
The first thing that strikes in Teddy is the particular visual style of the two filmmakers. Rather long shots, often filmed in wide-angle, where many actions occur. The light oscillates between naturalistic, arid, neon light that accompany the werewolf scenes. Because, if Teddy is indeed a comedy, it is also a horror film, which does not hesitate to show some very dirty and bloody scenes, as when Teddy shaves his tongue in order to remove the hairs that grow on him. Teddy begins as a comedy about the peasant world, and ends in a pronounced tribute to Carrie and Frankenstein with real horror scenes extremely gory rather successful. 
Still, the mix between horror and comedy does not always work perfectly, the two tones not always able to marry well. As for the werewolf itself, the two filmmakers avoid showing it too much and focus on changing Teddy's attitude, becoming more and more beastly. The beast itself is represented by fairly low-end CGI that spoil a little the pleasure of discovery. We finally have a film with a very scathing humor, sometimes hilarious, and very gory scenes. If Teddy were a bachelor then we would give him a very good grade, although she does not reach the 20.62 average.
