After being terrified in theaters at the sight of Sans un bruit, what a pleasure to find this film on DVD and Blu-ray. A release scheduled for October 30 with discs including the film of course but also bonuses explaining the genesis of the project, but also interviews with the various actors. Rich and complete bonuses that make us understand the construction of this film so unique and its authentic aspect.
Without a noise had (alas) not marked the box office of this summer. A disappointment for those who were able to appreciate this innovative and special horror film. As a reminder, the film tells the story of a family living in a post-apocalyptic world where the slightest noise is a threat to their safety and their lives. A strong, powerful and scary film that managed to convince us at JustFocus (review available here). An original setting, memorable actors and an exciting scenario and creator of a palpable tension, the film has everything to succeed and a new viewing at home is a pleasure. It is true that we lose a lot by not seeing him in a movie theater. But with good insulation protecting you from outside noises and a dark atmosphere, you will find in a new viewing, the same thrill and anxiety as in the cinema. Finally, despite less efficient conditions, the viewing pleasure remains the same. Especially since the DVD contains interesting bonuses…
A film that turns out to be authentic!
The bonuses of a movie are always very interesting to watch. When the passion for cinema drives us, watching bonuses is a pleasure and even if they are not the most complete, they remain very exciting. We must highlight the small defects of these bonuses which, unfortunately, are not really extended on all the themes of the film … There are very good anecdotes of filming and interesting interviews but alas, we remain on an impression of lack. Among these biggest gaps, we will think of the creatures, the main threat of this film, which are not highlighted. Whether in the design or in their creation, nothing is mentioned in the bonuses. Similarly for the mixing or the editing of the sound that could have been really interesting.
Nevertheless, despite these few small flaws, the DVD bonuses will catch your attention! What will surely mark you will surely be the sincerity of the actors and their feelings on the set of the film. A shoot that seems to have been perfect and a project with a golden genesis. Indeed, screenwriters Scott Belk and Bryan Woods had the idea in college with a common desire with the producers: to create an innovative horror film and make "something different". With a script of only 67 pages, the project could be scary but not to John Krasinski who loved the script and wanted to take everything in hand. With the hat of screenwriter (he slightly rewrote the script), director and actor, his hold on the work is important but not total.
He was able to leave an important place to his wife Emily Blunt who hesitated for a long time to join the cast. But the symbiosis that reigns in this couple pushed her to accept for our greatest pleasure as her performance is admirable. First a source of fear, this shooting was for her a chance according to her. Indeed, the two children, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds, were able to infuse the shooting with real energy. John Krasinski was even amazed by their performances and in particular that of Millicent Simmonds, deaf in life and in the film, who was a cornerstone in this shooting. It allowed the whole team to learn sign language and was especially able to be excellent in their role by using their past experiences and emotions to use them brilliantly during the shooting making the film more authentic and powerful.
This DVD is therefore a mine of exceptional information on the anecdotes of filming Without a noise that remains a thrill from beginning to end. We could also have told you about the (terribly oppressive) scene of childbirth that required only one take or the incredible work that was done regarding the sets used. Authentic sets, just like the performances of the different actors who once again, will leave you speechless.
